Do you take pride in your cooking prowess?

I've been learning about and experimenting seriously in cooking for about 6 or 7 years now. I finally met my hero and a man who has taught me more then any other in the art of cooking, Alton Brown in November of 2004. I cook all kinds of things and have learned a lot of interesting techniques.

So... how about it...

Do you take pride in your cooking prowess?

Although that's completely impossible... It is however, very impressive.

Hehe... Cooking is very easy to explain in it's simplest terms...

Food + Heat = Cooking

Then it's just a matter of deciding which food and what kind/amount of heat to apply to it.

I started actually cooking full meals a few months ago when my parents went outta town for a few weeks (im still a teenager) and now i love cooking. Unfortunitly neither my Mom or Dad are good cooks and I find cook books/shows boring.

Try watching "Good Eats". If you like science and cool camera angles and a bit of comedy, watch that. It's definately a show designed more for men then women, I think.

Actually that's how I got my wife too!

I had been studying cooking for about 2 years when I met Lexie. I cooked her Filet Mignon, grilled portabella mushrooms, and grilled asparagus with a bechamel sauce. She never left... literally. She stayed that night, and the next, and we're still together 5 years later. It was about 3 years from then that I asked her to marry me, but my cooking was good enough to keep her around.

I find that I'm actually quite good at cooking. Sure, I screw something up from time to time, but that is pretty rare these days. My baking (from scratch) is not up to par with my cooking skills, but baking is very very different from cooking.

My friends now invite me to cooking parties, not to just enjoy their cooking, but to actually do most of the cooking or at least instruct others on different things.

We should trade recipes if you guys have things you think others might enjoy.

i got nick (lanos2001) to hook me up with some korean ones from his mom... and DANG was it good!!! i altered a bit for my tastes, but very delicious.

oooh... I wouldn't mind adding in some Korean dishes to my list... I usually cook a blend of french, american, and italian. With the occasional german recipe in there.

Not that I'm partial or anything, just what I end up cooking more often then not.

Ever deep fried a whole turkey?
