well since you have a CAI i recommend the ractive filter with a heatshield. reason why is b/c instead of it being a heatshield it'll be a water shield. it won't of course block all the water but it'll help. oh its the same filter i have.

it was expensive... but my reworks filter has been awesome. it's rechargeable so i never need a new one. it also has the inner plenum to help air-flow.

K&N makes a filter thats somewhat water proof... now you cant throw it in a poor or anything but but it is enough to block the water while still giving it all that extra air (i saw it on the Speed chanel) :D

K&N, Simota... maybe Arospeed as well but not 100% sure of its quality.

How much of and what kind of advantage is there with a custom air filter setup as opposed to the stock one?

basicly this is done to reduce the restriction in the intake, the replacment filters got less restriction and their for lets your engine breath better and produce more power.

intake pipes are smooth from the inside and this helps reduce the restriction in the intake passage thus adding to the power gains as well.

placing the filter in the wheel well (CAI) makes the engine suck cold air and add to performance as well due to the fact that colder har has more oxygen in it per a given size.

I'm not looking for accuracy... about how much horsepower gain would you get (roughly)?

yeah they're all the same size i think they come with adapters but i don't think you need them. and horse power gains is only about 2-3hp if you have the short ram intake setup. if its just the filter then it would just give you a little better gas mileage and barely any better response. and thats just b/c of the stock intake tube being ribbed.
