I know what a popper is. I had looked at them when I was thinking about shaving the handles on my 1969 VW Squareback.
Those are what I had in mind to install to open the hatch when the trunk release was activated.

Might have to get one of those for boot release. Hmm.

dont confuse this with a manual botton or or anything else like that

this is not an alternative... it is actually a must for a shaved handle car. yes you can go with springs but to get the job done right this should be used..

all cars with a remote trunk have these. it is to open the door just enough so that it doesnt relatch its self, you will still need all your remotes relays and solenoilds

okay now i'm confused. i thought that if you had the remote deal you don't need the popper button? os is that just the popper itself like the actual mechanism?

yes.. it does nothing else but pushes the door open when the solenoid is activated...

you have to remember how a door and trunk are latched on a regular car.. like yours. when you close it.. the latch hits the bar and locks it in place. when you open it with your handle you are pulling the door out and unlocking the bar.

now lets say you have shaved handles with a sonlenoid setup (could be your trunk).. and you didnt install a popper.. you push the button and hear a thunk and the latch is released but the door doesnt pop open it just stays in the same spot

now putting the popper in place you have a force pushing the door out when the latch is released

For those of you that do not understand what the popper does:

It is a mechanical device that has a spring inside it to pust the trunk/boot/door out/open just enough so it does not relock itself when the solinoid no longer has power activating it.

Do not confuse this with what people call a trunk popper when they are referring to the trunk release itself.
I know it can sound confusing, but the spring popper is not what you press to release the trunk, but it is the spring that actually opens the trunk a little so it does not stay locked.

Everything arrived on Friday instead of Monday! I love fast shipping! :D

When I get home I'll read all the paperwork and get started installing everything.

A1-Electronics were nice enough to send the wiring infoirmation for my Lanos! :)

After looking at everything, I can now see why shops charge so much for installing alarm and keyless entry systems! LOL

I *DO NOT* reccomend someone who is not familiar with a car's electrical system and does not have a very good grasp of installation of after market products to even THINK of attampting this by themselves.

Professionals get paid a lot for a very good reason: they know what they are doing. (at least we hope they know what they are doing!!)

Anyway - I'm off to read the installation paperwork so I don't end up cutting the wrong wires under the dash of my car.

DOOH!!!!!! I drove over and broke the driver's side interior door panel!!!!

While installing the power locks, I put the driver's side interior door panel against the back of the car. (bad idea)

After cleaning up all the tools for the evening, I did not think about where the door panel was, started the car and backed up.
I felt the car go over a bump and heard a loud pop of breaking plastic.

My first thoughts were words I should not post in here.

Good thing I have a parts car and a spare door panel. :)

Anyway ... the good news is the power door locks are installed and they open from the switch in the center console.
The switch is not yet mounted, but it will go on the angled part of the center console next to the hand brake lever; that seemed like an easy to reach place that would not easily get stuff put on top of it.

I'll post a pic of the switch after it has been installed.

The alarm system & keyless entry will be worked on as I have time, but I have to drop the car off on Tuesday for the timing belt, water pump, pulley tensioner, idler pulley, springs & shocks ... so maybe I'll get to the alarm system next Saturday.

I know the part you are talking about and can'tt remember what it is called! LOL
It was something I had to replace on my Porsche, so at one time I knew the name of it.

Some time this week (when I have time) I will see how hard it is to remove and we can figure out a price for me to mail it to you.
