C20LET.

Post by kroz123 »

Hey guys what's up,

In what year did Opel make this engine and what year did they stop making it.
Some friend of mine who I work with has a friend that lives in Nederlands that can get me this engine.
But the guy asked me what year the engine must be (that can fit my car) so I don't know now.

any input?

thanx 8)

That's a good question.... I'm not too sure.

It could be found in the Calibra turbo from 1992 to 1997..... which is the most popular donor car (car was removed from production in 1997)

I'm pretty sure the C20LET was used in a few different vehicles afterwards.... I think the South African Astra T200 had the C20LET up until 1999.

I'm not sure when they switched from the C20LET to the Z20LET

Basicly the C20LET used the C20XE block and head while the Z20LET is based off the X20XEV block and head.

Nope.... niether the Z20LET or C20LET came to North America..... we did get the C20GET which is the 2.0L 8V turbo engine found in the 1987 to 1992 Pontiac Sunbird GT Turbo and Grand Am SE Turbo.

They both put out around 200hp from stock.... the C20GET only puts out 165hp.... but it wasn't intercooled so it's not too hard to get up to that same level of power with the addition of an intercooler.

Yes.... every tranny that bolts up to a C20LET, C20XE, Z20LET, X20XEV would fit in the lanos.

But...... there is a good likelyhood they will need new mounts fabricated to make them work.

The F16/D16/F20/D20 are direct bolt in transmissions for the Lanos.... F series have cable actuated clutches.... D series have Hydraulicly actuated clutches.

The 6speed 4X4 F28 tranny out of the Calibra has been put in a number of Astra MKII so it will for sure work in a Lanos.... but I have a feeling that you would need to have some custom tranny mounts made to make it work (perhaps there is a kit I don't know of)

The newer 6spd F40 might also work.... I'm not sure if that tranny is set up with the Z20LET or not.... for some reason I thought it was (coult be wrong)

Here is an interesting conversation about the power handling capacity of the various Getrag transmissions used with the Opel engines....
