1) Use THUNDERBIRD. www.mozilla.com. No programs from emails will run unless you specifically say so.

2) Don't EVER OPEN EXE ATTACHMENTS. Or .vbs, .com, .bat etc etc etc. Pretty much be very sure it's right.

there is also a danger if u use MS outlook! If u have a "autopreview" (in outlook: view-autopreview) the att can be made to run it self in the background! so i advise you to turn the AUTOPREVIEW OFF!

I bet that virus alert came from a mail chain. Doesn't look like a real virus alert.

"Deleting the zeros" on your hard disk drive wont burn your hard disk.

It's a hoax as the mate said, and I know a nice amount of "pc languages" :p and you can't burn a pc device with just an script. An script can ask about a file, but cannot control the hardward in such a direct way. Also "deleting zeros" doesnt make sense at all. All you can do is write 1 where the 0 is.

This warning came to me also as an e-mail, and you just can't trust all you read.

Eh. The only real way to destroy a HDD would be to either increase magnetism (via external magnet), or to have some kind of script make the drive suck in shitloads more amps than neccessary. And seeing as the power drain is set by the board on the drive, and not what's stored on the drive, I'll assume my HDD is safe.

I keep telling everyone. Thunderbird. Nice and secure along with cool junk filter too.

Yeah... Most viruses get passed along through ignorance. People running things they really shouldn't, etc...

I've been going online (weather BBS or the internet before most people knew there was an internet) and I've never had a single virus infect any of my machines.

I dont worry about viruses at all. Ever. I don't use Windows, Mac or Linux, and the OS that I use just doesn't know what viruses are. Anything that comes in as an attachment that is not HTML or JPG or something like that is just ignored and can do no damage at all.

Remember, if a virus can't run, then it can not do any damage. :)
