Wow that really sucks man. I'd be VERY afraid driving in coditions like that. But good luck to you Damir.

Well, this morning, bright and early, I went to my friends house to see what could be done. I pulled my intake out as it was soaked with water, and I pulled the plugs and the wires, and disconnected the coil. I cranked the car and a whole shitload of water shot out with such force that it hit the underside of the hood and cars around me. It didn't scrape so I thought it was good news. Well, I did this for a while, let the cylinders dry fully, put in new plugs, and ran the engine. It wouldn't start for a bit but after a few seconds of cranking it fired up. However, you could clearly hear something metal clanking around in the engine block. Smoke poured from the exhaust, and when I checked the oil, you could clearly see that there was water in the oil. Effectively crushed, I towed it to my mechanic.

Verdict: Broken Block, Blown Headgasket, and Bent Rod. He is asking for $600 in labor to swap in a new engine, but he (rightly so) says that it truly isn't worth it. A newer engine with a 200000 mile transmission is not a good combo, and my suspension already needed a lot of work, as well as my body wasn't what it used to be. So, it'll be a new car for me.

But don't worry (or worry, based on your position), I am in no way leaving the Daewoo world! The goal is to buy a simple S model silver manual Lanos Hatchback. Swap in all of my SX power goodies, and part out the other car through Ebay and you guys.

Hopefully, within the next week, I'll be rockin' a new 'Woo.

if you have a extra manual trans and all its components i am interested in getting parts if you want to part out your extra lanos (when you have two)

The one that died was an automatic, so no manual parts whatsoever.

However, absolutely everything you would find on a top-of-the-line SX Sedan is available for sale. If anyone needs something in particular, just say so and I'll set up a sale.

Gentlemen, I have decided to put off the purchase of the Hatchback. I intend for my Lanos to rise from it's ashes like a Phoenix, it will be reborn. It will pass 200,000 miles or I will die trying. I can be 100% certain that this engine was going to make it that far if it wasn't for the wrath of nature, so you can tell your friends when they decide to poke fun at Daewoo's quality. As weird as it sounds, I'm too attached to this one to let it go!

The goal: Complete rebuild of the mechanical parts to have a mechanically new Lanos ready for another 200,000 miles!

-I can get a 4T40E Transmission with 18,000 miles on it in Tampa for $88.88. (Thats right, less than $100 USD)

-An auto recyclers next to me has 14 used Lanos Engines! He will let me have an engine with 3,114 miles for $350!!!

-I will rebuild the AC and Heating system that died years ago.

-My braking system works flawlessly, so no need to fix it!

-In a few months, full suspension replacement, including shocks, mounts, Eibachs, and Kenny's strut bars.

After that is complete, and the car is broken in again, I will put in a header-back exhaust system, SR intake (NO MORE CAI EVERRRRRRRR!!!), perhaps a little porting and polishing of the head, custom headers, and a small shot of NOS.

It will be much better than the Lanos I was going to buy at a lower price. It can't be beat!

I intend to document the whole process for posterity so as soon as the swap begins I will start a new thread chronicling the rebuilding of a "Touring" Lanos.

damn dude your getting a great deal on those parts! im glad to hear that your gonna fix it back like new, im also glad to hear that im not the only one that thinks a 4 door auto lanos can be cool!

Wow ... $350?

I may have to get an engine from there and drive down to pick it up; it's only a few hours drive.
Spring break is coming up and FL would be a nice escape from school for a few days.

Eventually I would like a spare engine for my Lanos to build up with more power than what is in my car now.

That's great that you are going to rebuild your car and make it better than before!

that is awful and great news all at the same time!!!!! Don't forget an EGR valvue I beleive it is called, to prevent that from happening again even with the sri.

its not an EGR... thats a totally different component, i don't know the name of the thingy either but yes... good suggestion.

I had a "bypass valve" hooked up in the manner of the open breather valve on the intake. It wasn't hooked up to anything just in case. I thought it would be able to aleviate the pressure of the incoming water and maybe starve the engine of air if anything, but even that failed completely.

My plans are up in the air again considering my mechanic wants more money for the swap and I have no means of doing it myself. This would bring the total cost of the new Lanos and the rebuild of the old Lanos to very similar levels. I'm very attached to this car, but then again it does have 200,000 miles and there is a Lanos with 44,000 miles just waiting to be bought. I also have the option open of getting a new car at a dealership, but I really don't want another new car, I'd rather have something to toy around with.

How much do you guys think I could get for my current Lanos on Ebay. I mean, it is the top of the line SX model with a strong transmission and power everything, a good body, clean interior, and working starter, alternator, water pump, cylinder head, PWS pump and ABS pump, etc... Would it be reasonable to say that I might get at least $500?
