Auto-5spd Swap

My friend just became an owner of a 2000 Nubira Sedan, his mother owned it and gave it to him for college. He wants to do stuff to it so he asked me to help him. I dont know shit about Daewoo, ive been doin alota research on them. Your either a hater or a lover, myself i like the looks of some of there cars. Ne ways, the car is an auto...im trying to get him to switch to 5spd. Is this a good move or should we just leave it alone.

First of all Welcome aboard.

It's not impossible but it's not recommended either that's what the guys (experts) here said.

it is doable.. yes... i would say go for it if its what you are looking for.. things to keep in mind.. you will need: trany, axels, manual ECU, shift linkage, clutch pedal and all hydrolic stuff needed

first thing is first though.. make sure the timing belt is changed at 50k miles or you will be needing a new motor also

its probably not worth the money if you pay for someone to do it.. if you do it your self, like buy a dead 5 spd nubira and use it for a parts car and go that way you could do it for under 500$ as i seen not running nubiras going for less then that

Look for a pontiac lemans 5spd, appart from the ECU everything should be bolt on.

im only wondering about the manual trans,and all its other partners (axles, shifter linkage, pedal assembly) screw the fuel system!

well, the ecu has set "time" that it opens the injectors. if the ecu is assuming 400 or even 600cc's more that may make for a problem in fuel economy, let a lone tuning.

can someone clarify which ecu works with which... like, will the manual work with the auto, or is it the other way around? if the auto will work with the manusl (it should) then you wouldn't have to worry about it for the lanos swap

Curious about the transmission mounts. Are they in the same place for the 5sp and the AT?

im guessing that's a no...

i still have to check but i once saw an automatic lanos and the mount it self was different (the one that goes under the battery) but the it should have the same bolt pattern on the chasis.
