Need some help with new exhaust

Post by Mark K »

Hi guys,

I finally got my car fixed and am finally able to put some money into it :D

Its a 97 Cielo 1.5l

Im interested in getting a new exhaust but im not too sure where to start and im still undecided on whether i just want a new muffler for a better sound, or go all out with extractors and everything.

So i was wondering what you guys thought would be a good option?

I would like more power, but i dont want to do anything stupid with the power gains i would get from extractors (part the reason my car and my wallet was broken was because i had an accident with a brand new BMW :( Definately something i dont want to repeat :) )
I know a new/better muffler would give a a little more power so ill probly just go with that option, but id still like to know what i should go for?
I have a 2inch straight through muffler i got of a mate of mine (he had it on a diahatsu sirion) and its in fairly good condition (i was going to attach a pic but the bluetooth connector for my phone to the computer isnt working for some reason) and hopefully it shouldnt cost much to get it put on there...
But im still unsure and would like some experienced feedback :)
Thanks heaps,
Mark

at the very least go with a cat-back exhuast. that'll give you an extra couple ponies or so nothing extreme and and get the pipe to 2" pipes for better flow.

unfortunately i don't have pics of the exhaust. i just went to a local muffler shop and had them go at it by bending some piping and putting it on. they took off the first muffler and they just put bigger pipes where the stock one was. i got a good deal for a flowmaster muffler, 2.25" piping and a tip i paid only $180. don't have the tip no more since it wasn't lining up with the body kit.

I'm gonna say go to Liverpool Exhuast for this! 8) They are totally worth the drive for the quality of work.

Go for 2inch mandel bent piping if you're going to keep it naturally aspirated. They should be able to hook you up with extractors and everything...

Even if you wanted to get that new muffler on cheap, you could just change out your rear muffler and replace the piping back to the first exhaust flange near the rear axle and keep the stock resonator and piping to the cat. That stock rear muffler on the Cielo/Lanos is quite restrictive... thats where you'll get most of your power from (should bolster the midrange torque a bit).
