My 97 daewoo cielo wont start up

Post by Rog »

Hi there I must admit that im no Car mechanic -I jumped in my Cielo tonight and it won't start. The battery is fine, it has petrol. After an inspection under the car there is a small amount of green/light brown fluid. The aircon sounded a bit weird the other day.
It just wont turn over now. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

What symptoms does it have?

When you turn the key, does it sound as if it's trying to crank over? Does it simply go "click"?

Full details! :D

A basic click could indicate a starter motor: If you look down inside the bay behind the engine there'll be a little motor, I'll try and find a pic...

Bah. Can't find one.

Anyways, if someone can tell you where your starter motor is, just short it out a few times with either a wheel-brace or screwdriver. It'll spark a bit, but do it until you hear it kind-of kick over, like the key was turned then back off straight away. Should be right to go. If you were up in Wollongong I'd come help you out. :)

check your connection from your battery to the starter. also, the starter uses alot more electricity than the stereo , it could still be the battery. take it out and take it to an auto parts store, they usually will do a battery check for free, the easiest thing to do is if its a stick shift, (put the shifter in to first) get it rollin forward with the clutch pushed in (have a freind push you for a sec) then let the clutch go the car will fire right up. then you can drive it to the auto store th get it diagnosed, hope this helps, good luck

Thanks for your help guys. Just had the mechanic over and yep it was the battery - if my unreliable housemates came home on Australia day I would of been able to push start it and go buy a new battery however I like paying for labour "not". Unfortunately I live down an a street which is flat as a pancake with old people as neighbours if I got them to push the car I would have been using the jumper leads on their withered hearts.

The trusty Daewoo lives again....
