Could be your tappets are just out of whack. My sister's Lantra has that too; no actual problem, just makes noise.

are they expensive to fix ? Cos mmamdouh thinks from my discription it could be that the alternator belt needs greasing.

Well guys im quite upset about my car, i think its dieing, instead of a ticking noise its more of a clunk noise, and the more i drive it the worse it gets. But if i dont drive it for a few hours u can hardly hear it. The reason I am upset is because this guy who knows alot about cars said that it sounds like the engine is on its way out.

check you oil, i'm new to daewoos, but in dohc engines, a ticking (and similar noises) can be attributed to lack of hydralic adjustment since there isn't enough oil to move the tappets around.

check your oil and replace it if you need to. better to have a little too much than too little oil.

definately check your oil first and if all else fails get a complete tuneup. that way it elimates most causes for the ticking noise if it doesn't stop it to begin with.

I believe that would be the oil pressure gauge. You're oil pump is probably shot. Hopefully there hasn't been much damage to the internals due to starvation of oil.

This could be a good excuse to put a bigger engine in :-D

the reason the warning lights on a car are red is to alert you to the problem in the car. they are there so that if you see a red warning, you should NOT drive the car. take it to a place that will scan it (autozone) and see what they say is teh check engine light. i bet the oil pressure is an issue as well (as far as throwing the service engine light)
