Installing Footwell Neons...Help!!!

Post by whitetiger2nv »

hey, im thinkin of purchasing 2x12inch neon tubes for each footwell in my 2000 model daewoo lanos hatch... i will attach both of the neon tubes jus under where the dash starts so that it shines down on the foot area....
with this i have a few questions before i start my mission....

with these neons there is this statement...

"Create great lighting effects in the car, boat or home. You can mount the noen onto any flat surface and 12-14VDC is all that is required to power them. They are housed in a tough acrylic tube with black caps. Supplied with a 1.5mt lead with a cigarette lighter plug. For home use use our MP-3006 12VDC 450mA plugpack."

i could quite simply plug them into the cigarette lighter but what if i want two neons like one on each footwell and i only have one cigarette lighter hole...i noe the option of buying a double one, but is there a way i would be able to join the two neons together so that they both run through one wire??? also is there any other way i can run them without having to plug them into my cigarette lighter....like an option where u cant c the wires or nefin....

and finally just to be difficult...is there anyway that i can run the noens so that they only light up when i open the doors....or option 2....they only light up when i turn my parking lights on???

sorri for all the questions but they are really important...
help is much appreciated...

The best thing to do is to not use the cigarette lighter socket. What I did was I connected the neons to a 12V and set up a switch in between. Connected the ground wire, and done! Clean and no wire mess. Do that instead.

here is my advice to you for footwell neons...

under the driver's side of the dash, there is a red wire that is a HOT wire. hook a wire from that to a switch (that you could mount just under your dimmer) and then run the wire to the neons. then ground the neons. when you flip the switch, they come on.

you'll have to wait for erfinder or oz to tell you whether to run them in parallel or in a series because i'm not great with electronics :?

you will be better of running them in parallel just in case one goes off, it dosent take the whole light system with it and also you will not have a redused light out put as all the lights will get a constant 12v to them.
got drift?

Would be difficult for him to wire the two neons to the same source the gauges use? That way they would only light on while having lights on and he could therefore forget about an extra switch.

And for parallel connection, just in case he doesnt know what is, it's like connecting every device to the electricity source. If I'm not clear enough (sorry about my english) let me use two pics I found with google :)

parallel connection of two things: http://www.ame.ch/elektrglf/parallel.gif
serie connection: http://www.ame.ch/elektrglf/serie.gif

R1 and R2 being those devices.

PS: I forgot to mention he must connect then in parallel because they seem to need 12 Volts to work properly.
