Coil pack grounding
where does the coil pack gets its ground? is it one of the wires in the socket or through its back side metal frame? i am suspecting that it is not grounded well and i want to check it throughly.

Re: Coil pack grounding
Ground is sent through 2 signals from ECU. So, there is no fix ground...MMamdouh wrote:where does the coil pack gets its ground? is it one of the wires in the socket or through its back side metal frame? i am suspecting that it is not grounded well and i want to check it throughly.

Actually that is incorrect.... there is a ground.... and your ignition will stop functioning if it is not grounded correctly.
If your coil pack has 4 wires.... they are +12V, Ground, ECU signal 1, ECU signal 2
If your coil pack has 3 wires.... then it's grounded via the chassis
The ECU signal is not a grounded signal like it is in most cars.... it's a positive voltage pulse.... which is why you need my "coil driver" to interface to an MSD ignition system.
The driver is built into the coil pack.... so it takes the positive voltage pulses from the ECU and this triggers internal transistors to ground the coils and create the high voltage secondary pulse.

you mean the same "coil driver" that never gets made. I really wish you would quit teasing people with your "coil driver" if your not going to make it. I have inquired twice about it and I keep getting the run around. You tell me to contact Tom and Tom says to contact you. ??? WTF!
Aveo that moves! Now I need those cams!
so it depends on the no. of wires in the socket... i will check it and see what i have.
thanks for the help.

Is it common for this coil to go bad? My factory coil went bad on me about 4 1/2 months ago. I knew this because when the engine was running, sparks were only coming out of one of the two sides of the coil. I replaced it with one I bought from ebay and that worked well until now. I have the same problem again where I see only half of the coil working.
When I first had this problem, I took a hammer to the coil... and WHAM! it started to work.
Any thoughts or ideas?

I was not aware there was an official order made...... did you order and pay Tom for a driver board ??Brian5475E wrote:you mean the same "coil driver" that never gets made. I have four boards made and two are ready to go......I mentioned that months ago..... they just have to go into a box.
You seem pissed off about this.... but to be honest... I don't care.... I'm working 12-17 hour days trying to keep up with running a multi million dollar a year oilfield manufacutring company.......as a result I rarely get to spend time with my 4yr old daughter.... so excuse me if I don't drop everything just because you might order one.
I designed this driver because WooHoo needed one.... not because I need or want the money..... the way I see it I'm doing you guys a favor by making them.... because nobody else can.
I'd give out the circuit diagram for free..... but I don't trust anyone who isn't an electronics tech to make it..... there are liability issues to consider.
To get back on topic..... if you want it.... ask Tom how much it is.... send him the money.... and I will give him a driver board (in a box) to send to you.

Can you send me circuit diagram to see what are you talking about when you mention "my" coil pack driver....Erfinder@PrecisionBoost wrote: I'd give out the circuit diagram for free..... but I don't trust anyone who isn't an electronics tech to make it..... there are liability issues to consider.

Thanks...
I was wondering could I make DIS for c20xe, with 4 original coils. It would be better then 1 coil and distributor, and also better then coil pack because it have only 2 coils inside...
My problem is how to make switching circuit to split 1 signal from ECU u 4 coils... Maybe your coil driver will ge me some ideas...

Dude.... I don't know what a curcuit isdebo890 wrote:pm me one too. i have a good understanding on curcuits.
How can I trust you to make a circuit if you can't even spell it !!!
Ummm... my answer is no.... if mister_g feels like making them and selling to you or giving you the schematic then that's fine with me.
I don't want to be responsible for giving someone a circuit diagram and parts list and get blamed if you fry your ECU or blow up you MSD unit.
I also don't want to be responsible if your circuit shorts out while your in the center lane of a six lane innerstate driving 100MPH causing your car to stop dead.... resulting in a 16 car pileup and a half dozen deaths.
So.... I hope you understand why I don't just give out the circuit.... like I said.... if mister_g wants to give it to you then it's his responsibility.
It's not a complex circuit..... the parts can very easily be found at your local Radio Shack (or what ever the hell they call it these days)
Even with a moderate knowledge of electronics this circuit can be made.... but I have this horrible image of guys attaching components together with electrical tape with loose wires all over the place.
The components themselves are cheap...... most of the cost is in manufacturing a circuit board and the stupid case ( 50% of cost )
