amp cutting out

Post by daewoomofo »

i have two amps in my car a rockfrod 500x (4 ch) and a rockford 700s (2 ch) the 700 is cutting out, both power and ground leads for the amp are hooked up, both grounds are good, im running the amp in 2 ohms (2 4 ohm subs) i thought it could be over heating so i turned it off for (literally) 5 seconds, and it came back on. then it cult out at lower volume (less than half volume) but the 500x is still rocking even when the 700 cuts off. any ideas? thanks

uummmm..... still can be many things. have you tried to wire it where its not bridged to make it not 2ohms? if it still doesnt' work then i say take it to a audio place to see if they can just look at it for you for free. if not....

check all the wires again by disconnecting it and reconnecting it on both ends and see what it does. if it still doesn't work then try switching your amps to see if the 500watt one still works on the 700watt one's wires and vice versa. after that if you can't figure it out pay someone to do it. :D

LoL, I think that was just me, and I don't think I would want to relive that scenario again.

ok i just redid both grounds on the amp and its still cutting out, it cut out at volume 22 out of 62, i wonder if its over heating? it takes a while for it to cut out the first time (about 20 min) at high volume (45 of 62) but after that it will cut out every minute or so, even at low volume . if i turn the whole stereo off for like 30 sec it will come back on but then cut out again after a min. oz i know your good with stereos, any ideas?

Get like a portable home fan and have it blow on the amp while your running it. If its overheating then witht he fan it may not.. or just might take longer to overheat.

just run the amps at a good volume and touch them if they feel warm to the touch then the answer is obviously overheating and you need to reposition the amps so they have a way to vent off the heat.
