SS brake lines & brake cooling ducts

Post by kinkyllama »

What all is involved in installing stainless steel brake lines all around? Also will any universal kits work better than others? Is it just the lines that i should be getting? Any other things i should know?

I read the article of intrest on the lincon LS. Now its pretty easy with the rotor gaurds on the car to add the cooling ducts. My problem is i only have a quard on one of my rotors in the front.. not sure if the backs have them at all (cant recall right now). Should both of mine have them in the front?

you should have rotor gaurds all the way around.

as for ss lines, you just disconnect teh rubber lines and put the stainless ones in, then bleed the entire system (you'll loose tons of fluid). i dunno about universal kits, in fact, i've never heard of one :? . show me which one(s) you mean.

I dont recall any being on the back.. but really dont remember. But i do know there is only one on one side of the fronts. Weird.

I guess your right. I thought ive seen universal kits but i was mistaken. Can i use a kit from another car?

yes, the fittings may require an adapter, but you should be ok. the factor that changes between ss brake line kits is the length. you have to have enough hose to be able ot turn the wheel as well as allow for suspension travel. keasure your brake line and ask around to companies that make them and see.

as for a rear brake cooling... unless you go over 100 constantly, or are using really high performance pads AND rotors, i dont' see a need for rear cooling. you see it on touring and endurance cars, but not on low-end touring cars (like the lacettis)

Keasure? Anyone you know that sells SS lines that would be easy to communicate with?

I may do it anyways. Wouldnt hurt. I get over 100mph the way my car is on every lap of every track ive been on cept one. Plus im gonna start doing alot more tracks in CA which are much faster than the ones here.. most the tracks they have you can get over 100mph on at least two places. Then once the turbos on, sway bars.. ill be seeing much higher speeds.

Not sure. The scoop doesnt actually have to be out in open air though to be effective. If i dont think its worth the hassle i wont do it.. but i really dont think it'd require much work. I need every bit of help on the brakes i can get cuz soon they'll be the weakest link

to be perfectly honest... i think your best bet would be to go to a hydraulics company and take one of your brake lines in with you... then have them custom fab you indentical ones out of stainless. that way you get the same banjos and length.

i don't know about the forenza, but i'm assuming that the rear lines are different from the front, so take one rear, and one front. they should be identical left to right, so get to of each. comviniently, banjo bolts can work left or right.
