Hold on a second.......If your car is a 2001 and it only has 49,000 miles......... isn't under warranty still ???
I know I had a 5yr 100,000 power train warranty on my car..... I'd assume yours was 5yrs 60,000 miles as well.
What exact date was the car purchased?
2010 BMW 335D
1994 Opel Calibra 4X4 turbo ( C20LET 2.0L Turbo )
2002 Daewoo lanos

My car is an o1, but purchased 10/00 so, my car is no longer under warranty, but yeah, his should definately still be under warranty if it was originally after jan of 'o1. It's definately worht it to check it out.

no warrantee will not be gone with the company if another one bought it out. in this case GM. i know that mine came with 36,000 mile 3 years warrantee but i think the engine is a different story to a point.

id just say get the motor redone (easier said than done) new valves, pistons (are any messed up?) and what ever else it needs, yeah it will cost but not that much, or do the 2.0 swap, and get more power
