What is ecotec is the same as e-tec.

It's just a catch fraise GM came up with.... I don't think it actually means anything.
I think they just wanted something on their engines to make them sound competitive with the import vehicles ( such as VTEC )
I think it's a marketing gimic to fool people into thinking the engine is "special" compared to previous models.....which it isn't.
I personally think they should have put FUTEC on the engines instead.

The "Eco" in Ecotec is for the "low emissions" it creates.
The timing belt is actually an 8mm roller chain.
The power thing is something I'm unfamiliar with... perhaps they have a "power button" you can press and the ECU changes fuel/ignition maps for more power.
Sure the engine is a decent power maker but I don't think it's any better than the Daewoo engines.
The Ecotec is lighter because it's an aluminum block with steel cylinder wall inserts and it does have forged connecting rods but other than that there really isn't that much difference.
