I'm sorry
My car is being parted out....i odnt know when i will be selling all the parts to my car but it should be soon. The car is a Daewoo and that is a huge problem. My timing belt went to shit and stripped 14 teeth off, bending my valves in the process and now i am at a huge loss. It is not worth fixing and i cannot even stand to have this thing. I should have sold it a long time ago. It has been great being a daily member of the boards and i will try to stay in touch on here and post every once and a while. I am searching for a new car, most likely a honda of some sort or an acura. My car only had 49,000 miles on it, and the engine is junk. I am sorry to bad mouth the lanos but i dont trust these cars at all anymore. I hope you guys can understand how upset i am over this whole thing. Once again, its been great.
I wish my grass was emo....so it would cut itself

How old is the car?
Most people only think of 60K as the time to change the belt.... but it's important to keep track of time since the rubber cracks and deteriorates over time.... if the car is more than 5yrs old.... it was definitly overdue for a belt.
It sucks that it died...I feel sorry for you..... but I can't understand why you wouldn't fix it.... it's worth way more fixed than if you part it out.
Hell you could probably find a whole engine for $500, pull off the head and swap out any damaged pistons inside of a day.... it can be done with the engine still in the car if you can get it up in the air enough to get good clearance underneath.
You were going to sell it for $3000 and now you going to be lucky to get more than a grand by parting it out.
I just can't understand why people give up on vehicles after the timing belt pops.
I would even bet that if you got a complete 1.6L for $500, used the head and or some pistons you'd be able to make most of that money back by parting out things like the intake manifold, sensors, wiring, block, crankshaft, connecting rods..... and your cams from your blown engine are probably still good.

Yup...2001...probably manufactured in late 2000.... so it's just over 5 years..... so you were pretty close to being due.
Everyone allways goes by kilometers for service.... nobody ever thinks about "time"..... which is especially important with belts.
You could have a 1999 with 10,000km blow a timing belt.... if the belt is cracked it takes very little force to snap it or break off teeth.
It's too bad I don't live in the eastern USA..... I'd come help you fix her up... she'd be running by the end of the weekend.
