lanos engine swap
ok i have a plan i just need some advice. I want to put the cobalt ss engine into the lanos i own, but i am not sure if it is possible. I will have all the money in the world so that isn't a problem. I went for a drive in a colbalt ss the other day that has a underdrive kit, k&n filter and lowered with BOV i love it and i want the lanos (pleasure) to have the reponse the colbat has. thanks

There are European engines that can be found in North America that have just as much potential or more.
If you want 800hp.... I could have one to you within six months.
Of course the tranny, axles and a billion other parts wouldn't handle that much power....... but if you have unlimited money that shouldn't be a problem.

Why don't you just buy a Cobalt SS?
I agree with Erfinder. You can tune the C20LET to insane levels and destroy a Cobalt and many, many other cars. Also, unlike the Cobalt engine, the C20LET is a direct swap, and wiring wouldn't be as much of a pain (but a pain nevertheless).
If you have unlimited resources, import a C20LET from Europe, get quality forged internals, quality suspension, and swap it into the Lanos. You could easily get to 500+ WHP.

I know you guys have experience in all the lanos engine swaps but i really want my car to be unique. That the type of person i am. Has anyone done that swap before. All the info i can get send it to me i love this and i am very excited wooooooooooooo

Here is a site to make you drool.....
http://www.vmax.de
They specialize in performance motors..... click on the banner to enter............. click on the Opel link on the left side......then click on "Produktliste" in the bottom
You can click on the various C20LET models up to the EVO450
In case you didn't get the relationship... the 450 equals the power output in PS which is nearly identical to horsepower.
( 1 PS = 0.9863201652997627 horsepower )
( 1Nm = .7375 lb-ft)
So the price for the EVO450 was 10,099 Euro and you get a ready to go C20LET making 444hp and 443 lb-ft of torque with a redline of 8100RPM
Of course they expect you to give them a core..... so add another 1000 Euro to that price
The C20LET is the older 2.0L engine with a different cylinder head than our Daewoo vehicles.
I belive the newer Z20LET uses the same basic engine block/cylinder head as the Nubira 2.0L so it might be a better choice for going into the Lanos.
Anyways..... I just thought I'd prove to you that you can import an off the shelf 2.0L engine making close to 740hp that will bolt into your lanos without any issues.
Now having said that..... the EVO750 engine is 20,000 Euro and you could expect to spend another 10K to 15K on a transmission that can handle that much power.
The list goes on and on for parts you would need to replace..... it would probably cost somewhere around $50,000 by the time the Lanos is completely finished and ready to go.
But who else on this planet could say that they have a 740 horsepower engine in their Lanos?
( hopefully me in a year or two
)

excited now
so this 740hp engine is there any way you could find specs on it. It would be kinda interesting on what they did to it. And whats the most horsepower anyone has put into the lanos. I can't wait till i know how to buy this stuff.

The higher horepower model specs aren't given..... they probably don't want anyone to know their secrets.
My longterm goal is 800whp into a Lanos..... but I can't find a transmision that can handle more than 700bhp so I might have to reconsider.
If money is no object...... just name the horsepower figure and we can build it here.... I have a profesional engine rebuilding company five buildings down from my shop.... the specialize in high performance engines.
I'm sure we could get one done cheaper than the VMAX boys..... and I'm pretty sure that I both know allmost every "secret" there is to strengthening these engines.
As far as highest horsepower Lanos.... I'm guessing that a 2.2L turbo swap is probably the king right now..... so less than 350hp.

touring car transmissions with torqur and horspower ratings over 1000.
cost you about 25,000 for one, without the lsd or driveshafts.

Thanks for the Xtrac link...... I was going to head there next..... I've been in contact with Quaife.... their 700bhp transmission are around 8000 british pounds with the LSD.
I have also been thinking about the automatic tranny from the ECOTEC drag cars.... which is the 4T65E..... but I'd like to be able to use it for more than just drag racing.... so I'd like a manual gearbox ideally.
As for Opel transmissions..... the F28 seems to be the strongest..... but it's questionable if it can handle more than 450hp.
I think there are a few F28's out there running more than 450hp but I don't know what modifications have been done to make them capable of handling that much power.

x-trac's are pure race transmissions, so the cost is a direct reflection. The thing about them is they are sequential (you can get H if you really want it) and have bolt on systems to make them hydrualicly activated (like rally transmissions now, and formula one). they have their own foundry and metallurgy people and create some of the craziest alloyed cases i've ever seen. i knew a guy who interned with them for a year and he said they were making 7 speed sequential transmissions for formula one cars, that weighed less than 100 pounds, surviving the 900hp and 700ft*lbs from the motors... they are an awesome company for transmissions!!!

One problem for me is estimating torque levels.... I know that I'm going to need to take the engine up into the 10K to 12K RPM range to get that power level.
I'm thinking it's going to need to be running around 450 lb-ft of torque and that rules out most transverse transmissions (including many X-trac models )
Hopefully Quaife will let me know what they can do.... I think they are cheaper than the X-trac gear boxes.
