moin,

enginecode is a15dms.
nubira1/2 and lanos 2: 107 HP @ 6000 rpm or. 110HP @ 6200
where this engine was sold? in germany (europe?) only one 1,5 dohc was sold.the old a15mf in the nexia with 90HP.

i wassure that engine put some real good HP no and i was not sure of the 110 HP till you confirmed it... however i am not sure about the torque though, people say that SOHC engines pull better torque numbers than DOHC engines or at least they do that at lower RPMs.

the reason i am asking about this is for a DOHC head swap project i am thinking of for me... i am sure the head will fit my block but i don't want to do this and end up ruining my torque or so.

the HP gains are amazing and are much better than swapping in a 1.6 DOHC but i have to compare torque numbers between the 1.5 SOHC, 1.5 DOHC and the 1.6 DOHC to find out which is the best choice so if anyone got those torque no. for the 1.5 DOHC would you please let me know?

BTW i got confirmation that the 1.5 DOHC sold in Canada and in India.

the torque loss won't be noticable when you streak from 50kph to 100kph faster than you used to... especially with a cai installed

HMMMM... pretty intresting... i guess i will be heading to the head swap rather than an engine swap after all... i am only intrested in the VGIS and the extra 8 valves, the extra 100cc is not that substantial.

it is now down to cost... if the engine swap costs much more than the head swap then i will drop the engine swap completly.

According to my sources, this is the specs of the 1.5 DOHC engine in a 1997 Cielo . So there isnt really much power increase from the standard 55kw. However the 1.5 DOHC in a Lanos may be a bit better.
Power 66kW @ 4800rpm
Torque 137Nm @ 3400rpm-3400rpm

those numbers can't be right because they are almost as the 1.5 SOHC numbers... if that was the only gain you get from having 1.5 DOHC 16 valve then daewoo wouldn't have made one.

also i am sure that the 1.5 DOHC pumps some 110 HP so i recon it puts more torque than the SOHC but maybe at higher RPM... thts what i am searching for.

just dug up an old magazine (1997) i have that confirms the numbers bluecube posted... it also states that the compression ratio for that engine is 1:9.5 and i know our lanos engines have 1:9.5 compression and better ignition systems as well so the lanos engine has to be different than the one on a cielo.

reminds me with the time i was arguing that with Tango, he got a 1.5 SOHC as well but got 1:8.6 compression ratio and that made him do 75 HP compared to my 86 HP but his engine is a non interference one so if his timing belt snaps he just got to get a new belt... for me its a new head and valves as well.

that pulls us to another question: the 1:9.5 and the 1:8.6 compression ratio engines got the same bore and stroke measurments so how can they have different compression ratios?? i think this means that both engines got different head designs... right?

in that case a lanos head swap for a '97 cielo would make her gain a few horses and some torque as well

the 1.5MPFI (sohc) Cielo has a power output of 55 kw (75hp) @5400 rpm and 123n-m of torque @3200/3400 rpm and the 1.5 dohc Cielo that I have puts out 66kw (90hp) @4800 rpm and 137nm torque @3400 -4600rpm according to my owners manual sohc compression ratio is 8.6:1 and the dohc is9.2:1 bore and stroke are the same. Hope that helps. You get the sohc and the dohc in Cielos in Australia although I believe that the dohc is only in the glx model.

Cheers

Canada only had the 1.5L SOHC ( A15SMS) and 1.6L DOHC ( A16DMS )

Korean market had the 1.5L DOHC if I remember correctly.

Ok.... I dug up an old link.... here is any an all information for Korean market Daewoo engines...which includes both the A15SMS and A15DMS
