Astra GSI to Optra 5?

Post by Owen »

I was wondering if it's possible to fit an Opel Astra GSI 2.0L engine into a Chevy Optra5?

Yes, you can. It would be a nice bolt-on.

As Tom said "yes, you can" but I don't know about the "nice bolt-on" converting over to the Bosch engine management system of the C20XE would be a pain (which I assume is the engine your talking about )

Personally I think a C20XE is a waist of time..... the 2.0L 16V Turbo C20LET is a much better choice.... lots of fun and lots of power.

If your talking about the 2.0L GSI motor....... I'm going to assume that your Optra came with the 1.6L DOHC.... or do you have the 1.8L or 2.0L?

When I said 'nice bolt-on', I was mainly referring to the mechanical aspect. The setup would have to use the XE's wiring and the computer for the engine management, and the Reno ECU for the rest. And yes, C20LET swap would have been much more interesting.

I will do this on lanos 1.6DOHC. c20xe is very clean engine. ECU fuel managment and wireing loom is standalone, and gives easy start for moveing engine from car to car.
Lanos ECU must stay in for ABS, klima, kmph, and so on...

I don't know what is optra, because in europe we don't have chevy with that name. We have lacetti, if that is the same car. It have engine mounts like nubira, and newer opel cars (astra h, vectra c, corsa c).

On the other hand, older astras GSI with C20XE, have engine mounts like vectra a, and calibra... But, I have found engine mount for kadett gsi (astra mk2), and it fits c20xe on lanos perfect!

Only issue is A/C and power steering. I don't know how to mount power steering pump. A/C is fine... :?

The Opel Calibra isn't sold here (unforunatly - it looks quite cool)... can i find the C20let motor in the new Astra or Vectra or maybe in the saab 9-3?

You will find the Z20LET in the new Astras, but an engine would be hard to find and expensive.

The SAAB 9-3 isn't such a crazy idea... they share the same platform as the Calibra, Vectra A and Astra F but you should check the chassis against the Optra.
