wiper motor question ATTN ERFINDER,TOM,OZ!!!

Post by Audacity Racing »

what would be the best way to configure my wipers so that i can use the center wiper as a single, larger wiper? the motor is centered enough for my tastes, i just need the info as far as making the motor go one way, then the other twice as far, then back to center (to shut it off). i want to do it electrically and i think i can, it's just a matter of wiring it... oz, tom, or erfinder... can one of you guys direct me in this (tom's car/lotus exige are the inspiration... along with every touring and super car out there)

settings...

intermittant: go from the middle position to the side and stay, then across and stay, then across and stay... timed according to my knob

fast: back and forth

really fast: back and forth

what can you guys do?

I've never done a single wiper conversion.... Tom should be able to tell you what is involved... I'll go upstairs and tell him about your questions.

Well.... he must be busy.... I will tell you what he told me..... it might not be exact but should be close.

He used the center wiper part, cut off the one on the drivers side.

He used a straight wiper from a dodge neon.

When you do this you will find the wiper only moves back and fourth about 45 degrees.

You need to extend the length of the rod rotating the wiper.... this will give you an extended wiper sweep.

Sorry if this is confusing.... I can see what to do in my head.... but I don't have any picture to show you with.

Hope you get the general idea..... sounds like it only takes an hour or two to get it up and running.

i'm still wondering if i can make the motor center itself as opposed to staying only in the center and wiping one side, or staying down the whole time

any help from an electrical standpoint?

Sorry for kicking in late. Erfinder's description is correct, except for making the arm SHORTER. If I recall, I had to cut about 4mm - 5 mm from its lenght to make it go full sweep (the pivot arm on the other side where the wiper arm attaches on the shaft). As far as centering the arm, that simple. Turn the wipers on (with the arms removed), and off. They will come to their normal resting position. At that point, you attach the wiper arm straight up. As a result, when you turn the wipers on, it will sweep left, then all the way right...and back to the center position when you turn them off.

Now, this was on the Lemans...but Lanos should be very similar.
