Every time I think of Lada I picture a big russian dude smacking the engine with a hammer (think it's from a movie )

I have to wonder about that video..... they don't look like they are going very fast.

I think you're thinking of Armagedon w/ Bruce Willis where the russian guy attempts to fix somthing by just smashing it with a hammer and saying "this is how we fix things in Russia".

Ya.... armagedon..... I love that russian dude..... that's how I fix things as well.

For example.... certain people in the electronics lab were complaining that the portable A/C unit wasn't working..... so..... I firmly grabbed the machine and gave it two really hard smacks in the side with my knee.... it worked great after that.

Most things work better after you punch kick elbow or smash something.... even people tend to work better

Actually, that is true. After a long vacation, we came back to school and my teachers computer wasn't working. I calmly walked up out of my seat, gave it 2 hard slaps, you could hear the HD starting to spin and the thing began to work correctly.

I also agree with the people comment.

Hey Chris, I'm just weighing my options right now. If I gave you my car (Lanos) for a week and 2-3k USD, what would you be able to do?

Thanks :)

Sorry... didn't see this till now....

Hmmm.... $2000 to $3000..... well... I guess it depend on what you want.

I'm sure that would get you a decent 2.0L 8V turbo set up to run around 12 psi

That would be around 220hp at the crank and 230 lbft of torque.

That engine in that car..... it would go like hell.

A week isn't a whole lot of time..... the engine and wiring would have to be prepped and ready to go.

The big question is if this would be a problem when it comes to emissions testing..... I don't know what your state has for that kind of stuff.

One problem is the distance..... it's 2507 miles one way from your place to mine.... which will probably take you four days to drive.

So.... 4 days here.... 4 days back..... if you only have a week you wouldn't make it unless you drove for 24 hours a day.... then it would be two days to get here and two days back.... which would leave 3 days for the swap.... which is doable.

Anyone out in your area of the USA want to hook up and drive with you?

With an engine swap there would be no way to get it done anywhere else but at my place.... otherwise I'd meet you somewhere closer.

Shipping the engine to you would probably cost $600 to $800 so that's not the greatest option either.

You might get 48MPG on the way here ( cost= $120 ) but you sure wouldn't get that kind of mileage on the way back.... you'd be lucky to get 24MPG..... especially if it's your first time with the car and you drive like a maniac.

I dunno.... I guess it depend on what you would like and how much time you have.

Do you know much about your state emission stuff???

Do you have to get tested once a year... do they have "spot checks" where they pull you over and check out your car?

If emissions is a problem then the only way to get around it is to use a Nubira 2.0L or Forenza 2.0L engine.

This would definitly be more expensive..... the C20GET allready has low compression forged pistons and the internals are nice and strong.

Lets say a decent 2.0L from a forenza will run around $750.... I'm going to guess that just the parts needed to turn it into a 12psi turbo engine will put you over the $3000 mark (so that's without any labor)

If you were able to accept lower boost levels.... say 6-7psi then it might be possible to get it down into your price range.

An all motor 2.0L would also be an option.... that could probably be done for around $2000 and you would end up around the same level as the 6psi turbo motor.

Lots of options.... I still like the 2.0L 8V best.... the newer engines would require some fooling around to get it to work in a lanos. (either weld in a center engine mount or reposition the power steering )

I also like the 2.0L 8V idea better. The emissions aren't that bad here. Pretty much as long as the CEL is not on and the car isn't too loud, and there isn't too much CO2 gas coming out of exhaust, you'll pass. And there's no spot checks at all.
