RWD LANOS!!!

ok im prolly not the first one to think of it but when i win the lotto or make it big time i was thinking of a opel speedster motor and tranny put in the back seat of a lanos and make my lanos a MR car!!!!!

Why not AWD?? Here is a diagram on how this was done on the Kadett/Astra. Since Lanos shares the chasis, this would be a piece of cake!!! Imagine....400bhp AWD monster Lanos!!!

what engine is that?? and how will it drop into our engine bay? also the rear suspension looks weired compared to ours... i recon it will take loads of customization to make that work... right?

At first glance that would look like a Toyota engine of some sort. But the Engine it most closely looks like (5AF) has square spark-plug lead boots. These are round.

This is doable, but the system above is tto costly as it seems to eb custom built. If you want to make an AWD 'Woo, start with an AWD Cavalier/Vectra or Calibra. (The latter would be most interesting, but the former more affordable). The rear end of the Astra and AWD Cavalier/Vectra are totally different but this doesn't matter. The central mount for the rear diff would be mounted on a sturdy metal plate (braced if necessary) and mounting pojtns for the control arms fabricated. The front mounts would be similarly done. As would engine mounts. The centre-diff would be treated to a braced plate as well. The drive-shaft could be cut to size as could the prop shafts.

The fore-and-aft fitting of the engine may cause all kinds of problems, whereas the athwartships position of the Cavalier/Vectra is as the 'Woo already has it.

Ya... a mid engine RWD Lanos would make for a fun ride.... but I think there might be some serious work done on reinforcing the chassis to take the engine and tranny in the rear seat area.

Just imagine hitting a wall head on and having the engine crush you like a garbage compactor.

I think the mid engine would be easier than mounting the engine in the front.... I don't think the engine and tranny would fit that way.

I guess you could cut out some of the chassis where the shifter is currently located.... but I'd imagine that wouldn't be a fun job either.

Personally.... I still like the idea of a turbo 2.0L up front and two monster DC motors in the rear end.

just a suggestion buuuut.....a 2-link suspension in the back would be really easy to make, abd throw a ford 9" back there, one shortened for tubbed cars.......
