I smashed my car while showing off
Well..... this is one time when I glad I have so many vehicles
I did a number on my Optra 5.... significant damage but repairable.
I was out with a few friends last night ( one had a 350Z and the other has a Sentra SER SpecV ) and we decided to go out to some private property to check something out.
One thing led to another and we are doing all kinds of burnouts and slides.... and the odd 360 with handbrake.
I'm sure you can guess what I'm going to say next....
Tom wanted some footage on his digital camera..... so I did a burnout and pulled the handbrake as I went around the corner.
Needless to say.... I managed to get myself into an unstable slide as I was exiting the corner where the car would not come back in line..... and I ended up smashing a curb with my front driver side wheel.
I did manage to save the car slightly by turning into the curb at the last moment.
Bent the fender all to hell ( could barely open the door ) the control arm is bent so badly that it moved the wheel backwards about 3"
Sway bar was bent to hell and rubbing on the axle... light unibody damage and a few other things along the way.
The tire rubs in multiple locations all the time but the rim wasn't damaged too badly.
There is some question as to the health of the strut.... at this point it's probably a 50/50 chance the shaft is bent.
Luckily I was close to my shop..... so I drove it back.... amazingly enough the tire made it all the way back there ( metal was shredding the inside edge of the tire )
I pulled off the fender cut off the end of the sway bar so that I could drive it around my shop yard.
Well.... I should be mad.... but I'm not..... it was fun
I'm sure it will cost me a couple bucks but it's fixable.
I sure wish I had had some time to push this car past it's limits prior to this incident.... I was unprepared for the strange reaction of the back end as I came out of the slide.
Live and learn..... next time I will have better suspension components
Tom should be uploading some pictures and video at some point later on.
Too bad I didn't have my Turbo Lemans yet...... I probably would have had it out tonight instead of the Optra.... which means this probably would not have happened.

Well.... I'm the one to blame... I thought I could stop before the curb.
Needless to say I stopped with just the one front left tire on the sidewalk (about 1 foot past the curb) .... the rest of the tires were still on the road.
I was near redline in 1st so... I was proably doing 50km/h when I lost control.
If I had ABS this wouldn't have happened (would have stopped in time and had more control over tire direction )
If I had hit the gas this would not have happened ( car would have swung towards the center of the road )
If I hadn't locked the brakes there would have been way less stress on the suspension and I probably would not have bent the crap out of everything.
If I had allowed the car to do a 180 instead of turning into the skid this would not have happened. (but it's possible there might not have been room.... and I didn't want to hit sideways..... usually straight on is the best way if possible)
Oh well.... I guess I will have to practice tarmac slides (in a place where there are no curbs )
This is only the second time I've fooled around like this doing burnouts, sliding ebrake drifts, and pushing the tires way past their limit.
I'm thinking about purchasing the entire front suspension from a wrecked Optra.... then I can have parts in case I wreck the other side

The good news is that I have to get a new sway bar.... the stock 18mm solid bar has to go because I cut it off with a die grinder to keep it from interfering with the axle.... and I definitly need a more predictable suspension setup.

Damn, sorry to hear that, both Erfinder and MMamdouh, it really does seem like everyone is wrecking out lately.
Last night my dad got rear ended (in an '03 Civic) by some drunk yahoo in a 350Z. There is a 70% chance that the Honda is totalled (his car is 5x worse), so pretty much the insurance company will hopefully give us the $10,500 the car is worth, we'll pay off the $8,000 we owe to Honda and end up buying an '06 Civic Sedan.
I was so livid last night that had the guy in the 350Z come within 5 ft of me I would have cut his head off. He saw that I was very pissed and luckily kept his distance. But, so far, all turned out well, my dad is without a scratch, the car is at the most expensive body shop in town, and tomorrow, we go to pick up the police report with the guy's insurance info to get the ball rolling.
But it turned out the best for all of us, no one was hurt at all and all the damage is repaireable.

Tom had to do some editing to remove a few things.... I don't know when he will have it done..... I should be ordering my control arm tommorow... only going to cost me $65 CDN
I'll get a replacement stock sway bar for now but I'm going to use the old one to see if I can match up an aftermarket bar.
hopefully it will be on the road by the weekend
