Need some help with oil pump plug thread size.....

Post by Big P »

Well, I am planning on running the turbo oil feed directly from the oil pump so I went out into the shed today to have a look at it. There are 2 bolt/plugs in the oil pump assembly, one on the left and one on the right(if you are looking directly at it from the front). I figured on using the one on the left because it is right next to where the oil filter, and oil pressure sensor is. Let's see if this will load....

Anyway, I had figured on using -4 AN stainless steel braided hose for the ol supply line. I can see that I will need some type of adapter fitting to go from the thread size of the plug in the oil pump in order to step it down to the desired -4. Here is a shot of the plug...

Anybody ,now what size these threads are? Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Paul Moore

take that to an auto parts store... there will be a display thing with their nuts and bolts that you can thread that into to figure out what thread it is :D

Yeah, I was just actually about to go out there in a few minutes. I was going to stop by the parts store on the way back from getting lunch to see if they had a size chart, but wanted to post in case someone already knew what size it was.

No luck, the display that they have is too small. The plug is too big to thread into any of the sizes they had available. I had the guy behind the counter bust out a digital micrometer and measure it. It's bigger than 1/2 inch. I think it ended up being like .76 so I am assuming that it should be about 3/4 NPT????

I wouldnt recomment that particular route. You will bleed waay to much pressure from the oilpump, and a) you will drown the turbo with oil, and b) your overall oil pressure in the motor will be too low as a result.

The block is oil-fitment ready, and the plug used in C20LET and Z20LET motors is located here:

On your motor there is just a plug with a hex key on it...you will have to remove it.

The thread is M14x1.5 (METRIC), but you can buy a converter from M14x1.5 thread to 1/8th NPT. Just visit any local store that carry aeroquip product line and you are set. From the same manufacturer you can get braided high-pressure oil feed line. If you run into problems, let me know and I can have a set for you in about a weeks time.

So what is wrong with the setup that I intended to use? I know that it is a large port, but with an adapter to run a smaller line, the pressure should increase and there would be less volume through the hose to the turbo. The block that I am using right now is the factory sunbird 2.0L N/A block (C20NE??) and I'm not sure if it has that particular allen/hex plug in the block. I will have to take a look at it again.

Jackpot! I put the car up in the air today and what did I see??? 2 allen head plugs siting right in the block where you showed me. What a relief! Now it is just a matter of getting the adapter fittings and hooking it all up. Thanks Tom!

Ok, I called Jeg's today, and here is what I got from them. It is a special ordered part, but looks like what I will be needing to run my oil line. Let's see if it will load....

What do you think Tom, looks about right? It is the M14x1.5 to -4 AN fitting.
