LEGANZA ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!

Post by Merocks »

Hello everyone
Got a prob...my Leggy is on the crapper ( I think)
for some reason my battery light and brake lght stay on, sometimes when i drive the more I accelerate the faster they flash on and off, and now recently my ABS light flashes on and off, as well as airbag light...
all these lights seems to flash in accordance with my acceleration, but they have me real worried...the car isnt losing any power, drives fine, the only thing i notice is my speakers are like giving out, i have a song that the bass used to sound real good, but now that i bump it, im hearing alot of crackling..anyways, I have changed the alternator and the battery to no avail, these check lights are still coming on, in fact it seems to get worse...i have been told the best thing is to take it in for a computer check up, but bec of work conflict, i wont be able to take it in until next week at the earliest...has this happ to anyone before? any suggestions...i would really appreciate it..thanks everyone

seems like screwed up wiring/connections/grounds... recheck all your dash instrument wiring, sockets and grounding points, look for lose wires as well.

Post by Merocks »

Mo,
thanks for the reply..took it to this mechanic where he hooked up the machine to it, he said my car is overcharging, that the amps are too much, it was giving out 15, the mechanic said it should have been around 13 or 14...he he said i need a new alternator..the thing is he wants to charge me almost 400 bucks, and this will be the third alternator put in! i think that my car is not charging correctly or something..how can i need a new alternator? any replies thank you!

their is this little device (i don't know its name in english) that modifys the amps that yuor alternator is generating so that you don't fry your electrical systems when the alternator is reving fast.

if this device is bad it can pass all the current produced by the alternator and damage your electricl system and battry... again i don't know where is it located... on some cars it is built in the alternator itself and on others it is a separated part.

sorry i couldn't be more helpful.

electrical problems

Post by Merocks »

Mo,
Hey..im thinking that my cam sensor may be bad...i have seen some other posts and people have gotten check engine sensors, and when they have changed their cam sensors..the problem has gone away, im gonna see if i can get this changed..also when i drive at night, i notice all the lights, my headlights, dome lights, all lights are flickering in and out...i know sooner or later my car will fry, i notice also that my sound system is on the outs...i can hear crackling, or ifts too much base, the wiring seems bad..im at my wits end..i love my leggy but at 53k miles something had to happen i guess

the CMP sensor will throw in a CEL indeed but that was an inherent problem on the 1.6 DOHC engine... i don't think it is the same for the 2.0 or the 2.2.

anyways the sensor wouldn't make your lights and sound system flick like that... i still belive it is something with the wiring or grounding... did you check the battry terminals? grounding points? fuses, relays and sockets?

well... if it does fix the problem then i can't complain much but i don't see how could the serpantine belt cause any electrical problems.

glad you found the problem... and as long as your alternator is not working fine you can't judg any other electrical component till you fix it so go ahead with it then see what will happen.

My G/f's GTI was doing that, it happens to be that all the problem was, were 2-3 ground wires had gone bad. Check you're grounds.

not sure where ALL the ground wires are... i only know the battry to chassis and battry to engine bits... as the name suggest you can easly find them.

i guess the other wires will be somwhere under the dash... no idea where exactly.
