MP3 players in car

Post by kinkyllama »

What are the different ways of hooking up an mp3 player to the cars stereo? I know there is a radio signal way but that isnt high enough quality for me. I dont want my speakers to outperform the mp3 player. What other options do i have?

i suppose you don't want to replace your head unit with a new MP3 player so i suppose you can get an ordinary MP3 player and use this "tape" adaptor that was used to hook up the old disc man to a cassette player.

not sure about the quality but having tried this setup with a disc man i say
it will be very clean.

I dont have a cassette playier either.

And ive heard about those h/u and that sounds really good.. but buying a new h/u isnt worth it cuz my h/u works fine and doesnt power anything so buying a new one for that one option seems pointless.

But i may do that in the future

btw...

the wal-mart head unit was 100 bucks and came with two speakers (crappy... but better than stock so i was happy). it's 150 watts on it's own, so it delivers nice power to the mids.

a lot of newer units are offering cords to hook in your ipod/etc. it's almost like an auxilary in (most old one have it but you have to fab a connection). look for that and splice in a headphone jack cable :D should work just fine.

Older kenwood... the only reason i wanna get a new one (in the future... too many projects at once) is sometimes it freazes and liek shuts off. Which is really really really annoying.

Thing is if i get a new h/u it has to be siruis ready too.. which all kenwoods are.

make a mini media switch... like one of these (only make it smaller)

that would work just fine, all be it ugly and clunky (though lightweight... maybe a few ounces at best).

if you felt up to it... you could fab one up pretty easy

hey dan... i did some looking around and found this small booger...

it's only 15 bucks and gives you the ability to add a 3rd item in the car (like dvd player or something like that)

mount it under the dash with velcro, 3m tape, a metal strap, etc... and then just reach down and turn it to what you want
