Of course. Given quite a bit of money, tools and time. Actually, the Evolution motor is fairly jammed into it's own engine bay so I'm thinking it would be a major problem to fit it into ours. You might even have elongate the frame to accomodate the new, larger motor.
The main issue would be that the Evo is AWD while our cars are not. Converting the transmission (If there are even kits available) would be a huge trouble.
Worth it?
That depends how much you like your money. You could pay $5,000 for an Evolution engine and probabally an additional $4,000-$8,000 in parts and labor to make it work. Not to mention countless thousands converting the tranny to FWD. Sure you'd have a very nice car, but for $20,000 you could have bought a damn fast car.
Realistically, you could just take the $5,000 + a little extra you'd pay for the Evo engine, get a nice turbo kit and forged internals and tune your own 2.0L to well past 300HP and probabally keep up with or even be faster than the Evo in straight-line speed.
That's why I posted the thread. I know there are alot of people out there who know more about auto engineering than I do. I just noticed the engine was fairly simular to the Daewoo's. I haven't found a website that gives dimensions of the engine size, mounting points, transaxle, etc.
I just thought it would be something to look at and consider for a chance to be a "drop-in" motor.
I guess "we" can only dream!
The 2.0L can be pushed to 300hp with a few upgrades....
Given an EVO weighs around 3300lbs and a lanos is around 2400lbs that means the a Lanos with 300hp would absolutely destroy an EVO when it comes to acceleration.
Even the Nubira and Leganza would still be able to edge out an EVO.
Now having said that the EVO would probably still kick the crap out of the Lanos/Nubira/Leganza on a track due to the great handling and AWD

As you can see here, this is what my Lanos 2003 (1.6 DOHC) weights.
Audacityracing: Thanks for the info, but I saw that the information you provided is different as to my Lanos. Final ratio: 3.72 when my Lanos has 4.17 and for the Lanos 1.5 brings 3.84. Maybe that's why that in some places the Lanos makes 16 sec "stock" (supposedly) and here in PR they don't make that time stock.
Darkstalker: Leganzas here is PR weight 4000 lbs.
Will it be true that they bring different weights depending on the country they are sold?
Umm your reading it wrong your GVWR is how much the car weiges with a full load of people that is the recommended max weight for the car. My Aveo reads the same amount 3329 or close to that. but my car actully weighes 2340

Ok... here is the definition of GVWR from a trucking association.
Abbreviation for Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The maximum total vehicle weight, measured at the tire-ground interfaces, for which the vehicle possesses components adequately rated to safely carry
Exceed 3329lbs and your could be in for trouble.
So if the car is around 2400lbs.... that leaves you with about 900 lbs for people, fuel and cargo.
So.... four 250lb guys theoretically put this car over it's rated capacity which could result in any number of problems including snapping a suspension component.
They allways have a margin of saftey.... you could probably load up to 4000lbs and still not break anything.... but then again who wants to chance it.

GAWR FRT is the maximum weight you can put on the front suspension
GAWR FRT is the maximum weight you can put on the rear suspension
You will notice that if you add these two together they are actually more than the total GVWR.
So lets guess that you have about 1000lbs on the rear axle (just a guess) from the car by itself.
If you were to load it down with 900lbs you would exceed the GAWR RR by about 50lbs but your total weight would only be 3300lbs so you would be under the GVWR by 29lbs.
Of course this doesn't take into account that your body weight would also be counted so you would probably go over both the GVWR and GAWR RR.
Either way.... a cop could have your car towed to an impound lot if he found that you were exceeding the maximum ratings ( they rarely check cars unless they are loaded to the point where the rear bumper is sitting on the ground.... most of the time they are looking for truckers that are carrying too much weight for their trailer capacity)
