Lacetti/Optra performance suxs
Well i must say i kinda regret getting this car. No aftermarket addons, lousy performance and a daewoo stinch. Heck u cannot even find any technical writeup on "Dtec" or whatever its supposed to mean. Ownership feeling is zero.
Is there any engine swap i can just perform to make it at least 170-180 hp etc? the idea of buying a turbo kit all across Canada and with no one here in malaysia knowlegable enuf to fit it is frustrating.

Your dissappointed?
Ive beaten BMWs.. jetta VR6s, scion tcs, civics, sentras, mazda 3s, and many other models here and there.
Hell learn to install a turbo kit yourself isnt that hard. Engine swap isnt really worth it.. especialy since you'd be throwing away and very good engine.

Sounds like salvation to me!!
Ok, whats ur advise now. How do i even start? Heck this is malaysia u know not US or Canada, we dont have our own garage for worshop.I hv to go to a workshop to do anything. Over here,
the Civic rules, so does the Beemers and Evos. Chevrolet Optra is a consider a weak performer, even compared to Honda City 1.5
1.8 Lt Optra Dtec 16
- what do u do with the clutch, its not like u can buy a exedy clutch and replace it. In ur case, u got a manual version, they dont even sell that here. All is auto.
- turbo kit?? This looks like a heavier job than a swap, eg ecu, custom rods etc
- how much can this dtec engine take anyway
- u mention ur intake got melted, how in the world u got it melted?
- the turbokit u got from where? have u installed it alreaedy??
- was the pulley any good at all? Can it work for 1.8?

sorry to break in like that but can't the 1.8 be stroaked to 2.0?? it is far less complicated job than a turbo or an engine swap.
if that is doable then start with it, get CAI and exhaust... prefferably a good header, remove your CAT, get a chocochip and shift improver from Chris chris@daewootech.net then throw out any extra weight from your car.

1.8 -> 2.0 ?? what needs to be done to do this? What parts to buy?
The exhaust thing, how much hp can that improved? < 5 hp wont be worth it.
CAI, last check forenzamotorsports gave up and quits, so who's selling?
What in the world is a shift improver for auto?
Chocohip? is this for optra or i gotta be E=Mc2 to use it

to stroak an engine you need to swap the crank shaft and rods of a bigger engine to increas the capacity of your engine... it is done to the 1350CC engine using the 1500CC rods and crank shaft.
as for exhaust and intake filters... every little bit will help 5 HP here 4 HP their and yuo will end up with good result, remeber them mods are more effective when other mods are used (CAI works better with better flow exhaust and so on).
for CAI... i don't know the intake setup on your 1.8... could you post a pic so we can tell you which kit is compatable with your car?
a shift improver is some kinda chip that improves the shifting action of an auto tranny... i am not really familiar with it so ask Chris and he well tell you all about it.
i think the chip will work fine on an optra... also you can refer to CHris in this matter as well.

Your joking right??
You don't need a swap to make that power.... it's not hard to get that out of the 1.8L/2.0L
I'm making close to 150hp at the crank with my 2.0L and all I've done is manufacuture a CAI, manufacture a cat back stainless exhaust, install a magnaflow muffler and throw on a 360 Dynamics underdrive pulley.
The car is way faster than it was stock.... and I've only spent a few hundred dollars on the modifications.
I wouldn't bother with the 1.8L to 2.0L change..... it's not worth it.... the 1.8L is nearly as strong as the 2.0L.
Shipping from northwest Canada to Malaysia is probably cheaper than it would be from northwest Canada to south east USA.
I sure wish I had the time to make some products for you guys.... as it is I'm working until 11pm many nights ( 3am once last week )
My primary manufacturing business will allways be my #1 priority but I'm hoping to set up a shop with another company this winter so I can get started on some serious design work.

if you go to suzuki-forums.com there is a post in the forenza section about forenzamotorsports.com and he still has some of the peices so you can buy them and make your own intake.
You will be very pleased w/ the results from an intake, exhaust, and pulley.. on our car the gains are much more noticable than many other cars.
As for a turbo.. if you only want 180hp.. first off at the wheels or crank? Anyways if thats all you want you dont have to change much to get that amount of power. Im sure the auto tranny can take more than the m/t so you should be okay there.. but ill let someone else shed light on that cuz i know nothing of the auto.

I can probably help u with the intake when i see a pic.. but if i remember right its exactly the same as the 2.0.Magneto wrote:Ok i post a picture of 1.8 engine bay and u can see advise what intake to use on it....or how to make custom or order etc.
About the exhaust, what and where exactly do u modify? The header is stock?
do you remove the cat-converteer and replace with a passthru bullet?
As for the exhaust.. you can replace the cat if you want but im unsure if its neccarsy. You'll be happy with results from cat-back.. just go to a muffler shop and have them replace the exhaust fromt he cat-back with 2.25inch piping, no resonator.. and performance muffler.. i recommend a reactive muffler

Hi Erf, kklama and mmduh
Here is how my bay looks like, i guess the intake should be same??
Btw, the ud pulley, how come we need a new belt? How long can the belt last compared with the original and how much weight diff exactly (i saw the dyno on their site though).
The cat back exhaust, hmm, can i do a twin exhaust? one muffler on left and one on right ...that will be cool, any recommendations of brands etc?[/img]

There is a post somewhere in the 360dynamics section of the forums that has all the info on the UD pulley.
You could do a twin exhaust if youd like. Id recommend reactive muffler

ok u got me there : what is a reactive muffler? any brands, i have to snoop around here, in malaysia a lot of cheap brands that does next 2 nothing
The CAI, so how should i progress with this. I saw on supra site, that the Apexi power intake is de best given the test they did with a vacumm cleaner .
can i get the Apexi and get some component and fit it in? How to do this?

Reactive is a brand of muffler (i think i spelled it right) i had one on my old exhaust setup and liked the sound.. ive heard other good things about the sound they produce too.. very deep.Magneto wrote:ok u got me there : what is a reactive muffler? any brands, i have to snoop around here, in malaysia a lot of cheap brands that does next 2 nothing

As for the CAI... i doubt you'll find an intake in the brand that you can make work. This is your best bet: http://www.powerflowracing.com/1home.html
You can pretty much build your own intake.. just take some meausrments of your car and figure out what you need!
As for a duel exhaust.. it might be tricky.. im not sure if a simple muffler shop would do it or not.. but I would put resonator (like a 2nd muffler) in the two pipes after they seperate into two that way you can go with bigger piping and not worry about lack of back pressure. Cuz 2.5inch is the biggest you'd wanna go.. split that into two would be 1.25inches.. I dont even know if a muffler shop would have that size piping or if you could find a muffler that'd fit

that engine is very much like the 2.0 indeed so the same intake that kinky got can work for you... OK you might not have so much performance parts fro the car arround but you can custom make it.
basicly you need the 90 degree pipe to hook the TB then a long pipe that goes to the place where the OEM air box is, or even better to extend the pipe to go into the hole right under the air box and install the filter in the wheel well... this will make the filter suck cold air rather than the hot airt in the engine bay.
also i think that the UD pulley for the 2.0 is compatable with your engine... refer to Tom concerning this issue, look in the 360 dynamics special forum and you will see a full review for the pully.
i still see stroaking this engine to 2.0 is a good thing to do.
