Hi
I recently had the misfortune to drop a timing belt in my 3 door hatch lanos 1998 model. After research (contradictory) I came to the understanding that buy a replacement motor was an option worth looking at.
I eventually found one at a reasonable price to me (on baretrcard of all things) and had a fried install it for me. The problem we have is follows
- Sump is Alloy (previous was tin)
- Has powersterring (mine didnt)
- Some of the other brackets didnt match but had the relevant places on the block.
Now we have been told that this is still an e-tec 1500, but I am confused all I can find with an allow sump is a 1600. I may be wrong, maybe someone can shed some light on it for me...

1- as for the sump i don't see the problem here... if you love your tin sump that much you can just swap it from your old engine.
2-power steering... simply remove the power steering pump and you are done, if you decided to get the power steering then you have to buy a new steering rack, fluid reservoir and piping in addition to the labor work.
3- if you are sure of the "relevant places on the block" then you can use your old engine mounts on the new engine as well.

We are uisng this motor anyway and we are unabel to locate any marks that relate to it being x size. The sump still connected ok (just needed some more bolts) We have used the previous mounting brackets etc as yopu suggested, I am unable to find any reference to a 1.5l sohc with a alloy sumpmmamdouh wrote:hi there

OIC... i never bothered to know this, i have a 1.5 SOHC too and i do my oil changes but i never bothered to know what kinda material my sump is maid of.

I have a 2000 1.5L Lanos and it came with an alloy sump. The replacement one i bought earlier this year from Holden (GM Daewoo) for it when i did the turbo was a slightly different shape but it was alloy as well...
As far as i knew they all had alloy sumps... i havent heard of the tin one before
