got a question though about the paint. i know you can use powder coating on engine parts and they won't flake or peal. will regular auto paint work b/c i got like half a gallon of paint still and i was wanting to paint my SRI and the metal valve cover i got from daftmajin. maybe a few other parts like the caps on the reservoirs and stuff. i'm really just wondering on the parts that would get really hot. thanks

nick
If it's anywhere that'll get hot, there's a good chance it will get messed up. Another thing is paint doesn't wash off as nicely as powder so that's another advantage.

Sorry what I meant was, dirt and grim don't wash off paint as easily as powdercoating. With powder you can just wipe it away, with paint ya need special cleaners and hope that it hasn't stained the paint.

Another huge advantage we just learned is powdercoating is ALOT lighter than paint.
We weighed one of my rims before we stripped it back down to metal. It is a 17"x7" aluminum rim with automotive color matched paint. It weighed 23.4lbs (yes I know they're heavy). Last night we finished powdercoating the rims and polishing the lip, they weighed 21lbs even. So that's 2.4lbs less at each rim.

I can't wait to see the rest but those pics will come in time...

Oh you guys might also find this interesting. If you ever have the chance to get your rims either powdercoated or painted, choose powdercoating.
Here's why. I had my rims professionally blasted and painted with PPG paint to color match the car about 2 years ago. These rims are HEAVY. Before we decided to powdercoat them we weighed the rims. Rim only (no tire) they weighed 23.4lbs. Ok, yeah I know that's a heavy pig. We sent the rims out to be blasted and they came back 20.75lbs. Now here's the good part. After powdercoating they only weighed 21lbs. That's right, it only took 1lb of powder to coat all 4 rims. Whereas with paint it would've taken about 12lbs of paint to do all four. That's a savings of almost 2.5lbs per wheel.

Shimmering Candy Blue. These pics don't do it justice at all. You've got to see it in the sunlight. It'll make you melt.

Yeah you and me both. I'll be able to dedicate most of my nights this week in the garage so it'll live again real soon.
