Sound wizards, rescue my amp project

Post by daewoop »

I read up a bit, went shoping and got myself a new head unit, amp and subwoofer. Sorted! Except I cant find a hole in my firewall for the amp power cable :>( My ride is a 98 Lanos 1.6SX 5 door hatch. I noticed a hole with a rubber plug on the passenger side fender but have no idea how to get the cable through to the inside. I would prefer not to drill any holes so please help?!

the only way to get that cable to the car is drill.

nope... my car got an amp and the power wire from the battry to the amp goes through that hole at the passenger side... try to push the wire from the engine bay and remove the right kick panel till you see the wire protruding into the cocpet.

the EASIEST way I found to get that wire through that incredibly small hole is to take a metal coat hanger and un bend it so it is fairly straight and push it through and then bend it so it will have a little place to hook the wire onto and just pull the wire on through.....easy as pie but it took me forever to figure that out.....

There is a HUGE hole ready and waiting to be used above the main fuse box on the left side of the car.

The hole is oval and about 1.5" x 2.5" in size. The main wiring harness runs through it and into the fuse box.

I cut a slit in the rubber boot that seals the hole around the main wiring harness and ran my 0ga power cable through it.

In order to VERY easily get to the hole from the outside of the car, I unbolted the front left fender. I did not completely remove the fender, but left the bottom front 2 bolts that are hidden by the bumper cover.

Open the hood
Remove the headlight
Remove the bolts along the top of the fender
Remove the plastic mud splash flap at the bottom back of the fender arch
Remove the bolt under the bottom of the fender that was under the mud flap
Remove the bolt in the slot along front edge of where the left door opens
Carefully swing the fender out and you have a big, clear work area to get to the rubber grommet where the wiring harness goes through, and also a big metal tunnel that runs along the edge of the engine compartment and has a tunnel where you can run the wiring and it comes out just to the rear of the strut tower.

It looks VERY clean and professionally done when you finish.
