Glass engine tubing

that looks awesome!!

but i would have to question the integrity of the tubing. say you go through a big puddle at a decent speed and somehow water got in the engine bay, that hot glass would shatter from the temp difference. then you got glass all up in your engine bay and it'll probably cut up your belts and trying to clean that out would just be near impossible to get it 100% clean. other than that i love it.

Yeah, I doubt it is even legal to have glass in the engine. It is most definately acryclic or some other rigid plastic. The only problem is that the heat from the engine bay has a good chance of deforming or discoloring the clear tubing and thereby ruining the look of your engine.

It definately looks cool though. I had a friend who had clear silicone tubing used for most of his fluid lines so that the engine looked really high tech and you could inspect everything at a glance. Only problem was like I said, they began to discolor after about a month of use, so after a few times changing them he went to the braided stainless steel option which looked good too.

you could make it out of pyrex glass and not have to worry about the temp change if water gets on it...

my big thing would be flexing...

glass is about the most brittle substance you could pick...
i can't see and intake tube working very well because the engine rocks around so much. it would be nifty for things like vacuum lines, but that's about all i could see you even using it for

i would also worry about engine vibration... that could put a lot of strain on a glass pipe specially when that tube is hot.

well if it is tempered glass.. like test tubes are made off.. they dont bust

I used to have some test tubes.. i burned stuff in them while i was bored.. they broke.

OBSERVATION:
test tubes broke.
CONCLUSIONS:
1) don't use glass tubes for exhaust piping.
2) kinky is crazy (j/k).

Tempered glass breaks just as easily as regular glass, it just doesn't create sharp edges. It is sort of like the saftey glass on car windshields and side mirrors. If you have ever smashed a car window and looked at the shards, you will notice that the edges wouldn't cut you as easily as regular glass.

they make hoods out of polycarbonate plastic so I bet that intake is not glass.

Sure it yellows over time but this car is obviously set up for "show" so the guy will probably just buy another one after this one starts to loose it's clarity.

I bet a polycarbonate tube like that is about $20..... the vinyl graphics are probably worth more money than the tube.

lol.. seriously.. I just add a little gun powder and a little lighter fluid to make a little "poof" and i used the test tubes (from school, haha) to contain it
