Wheel spacers

guys i am not that expert with chassis designs and all but i know if you make the wheelbase wider you increase the car's stability during turns... also i saw somewhere those wheel spacers where you put a metal ring between the rim and the hub to make the wheel further to the ouside and gain some width.

my questions are:

-) what effects does those things do? do they mess any other drivability charactristics in the attept to make better stability during turns?

-) how safe are those? i see they will but more strane on the wheel bolts and maybe the bearings too, any parts should be upgraded in case of using those things?

-) are they worth the money to be used on a road car? my woo won't be a racer so i won't spend the time and money unless it makes very noticable improvment.

-) any rubbing issues for the wheels? i see we are practically messing with the offset so their should be some limit to how we go with them spacers... right?

i found a web site that got some info... they even got spacers for our Woos, still the safty issues sitll stands... BTW anybody tried them before?

they work well (granted you have the wheel clearance in the fender)

as long as good, high strength studs or bolts are used, they aren't a problem

I'm pretty sure Nick has used them for some time. I think he wasn't too happy with them.

i have used them since i bought my 2nd pair of rims. now the only reason i bought them was b/c the offset was way off. ( i didn't know)

basically with out the spacers my rims would grind on my brake calipers. so i'm guessing with the spacers i just created the correct offset. i didn't notice any diff suspension wise at all. i'm happy with them b/c they create the right offset but un happy b/c they make my studs shorter. all in all i bet they are great if you get the right offset to begin with.
