Well.... the stock 1.6L only makes 85whp (as per the Aveo dyno tests) so 140whp is quite a gain if you ask me... that's a power gain of 65%
The 1.6L could probably make 300whp or more if everything was built up with forged connecting rods, forged pistons, forged/billet crankshaft and some support on the bottom end.
I think 140whp would be as much as you would want to go without changine the rods..... perhaps I'm off on those numbers but I'd rather be on the "safe & reliable" side of things.
Could you make more??? Yes... absolutely.... but each engine will react differently to upgrades and each component will have it's own weak spots due to imperfections in the casting process.

Please keep in mind that all of these prices and horsepower levels are purely speculation..... it's impossible to know what the exact power levels and exact prices would be until and engine was rebuilt and tested.
At this point I want to see if there are that many people interested in a "plug and play" turbo engine.
Lots of people have yearly emission checks so this type of engine would be perfect.... yank it out on a weekend.... throw the stock one back in.... go for your emission check.... and drop the turbo engine back in the next weekend.
I'm planning to run two engines in my Optra.... my factory engine will be used in the winter and the turbo engine will come out during the summer.
I plan on making a "test bench" so I can fire up the stored engine once every couple of weeks to keep the seals from drying out.
Up here I would have a hell of a time with an aggressive clutch and powerfull turbo motor during the winter..... it's very slippery.
Plus this will make my turbo engine last longer as I will only be driving it for six months of the year.

this has been covered a few times. basicly, they have said, the engine is crap for heavy performance mods, and its best to buy a ASTRA (which is a lanos) mk2, thats either rusty, or had rear damaged, and swap everything over, ie a GTE version.
then if you want, spend money on that. i can pick up damaged or ones without mot etc for ?300 quid, cause they are an old motor. something like that would be the better option, and would be worth importing to america, as youll have nearly everything there for a conversion. i have looked, and even race cams and nos dont warrent the kinda performance gains...eg
cams - ?500
nos - ?500-?1000
or GTE astra for ?500 and leaves ?1000+ for labour or mods. and would be loads quicker.
