Warranty Question...
I know this question is asked all the time and is very annoying. Hell i usually answer it but this time im unsure.
My gf just got a used car; a Dodge neon. Now i want to buy her rims for her car for her birthday but she asked the dealer and the dealer told her that it'd void the warranty. Now i told her thats BS but she said the dealer said its b/c its the Extended warranty. I still think its BS but i wanna make sure.
thanks,
Danny

i'm not sure about the warrantee but i'd look over the warrantee agreement just to make sure. and wheels should not void anything b/c it doesn't exactly mess with anything. that would be like her switching from stock steelies to alloy wheels that came with some neons from factory.

Well i know in normal warrantys it doesnt matter what you do... under laws it cant void the warranty. Even if i turbo charge my car.. its jsut if that particular thing causes the problem then it wont be covered under the warranty.. but i dont know if its the same with extended warrantys.

As a rule, any modification to a car can and usually will void the warranty.
Yes, it is BS, but since the Dealer doesn't want to spend any more time or money on your girlfriend's car he will use the rims as an excuse for anything you bring it in for. If something breaks in the engine he might say something like "The aftermarket wheels were improperly balanced and they put to much pressure on the steering system and engine causing it to damage itself". Now, we all know it is true, but if he fixes the car under warranty he loses money, if you still have to bring it to him after you void it, he makes a profit and we all know how greedy dealerships are. Don't try to fight with them, you won't gain an inch.
My suggestion, if you already have the extended warranty, tell the dealer that you want rims without voiding warranty or you want him to refund you for the amount paid for the warranty. Likely wanting to save money, he will opt for the earlier and take the risk of the rims damaging your car.
When I buy cars I usually say that I don't need warranty because I usually void it quick, but no one ever game me refund.

They don't usually look and see whether that "particular thing" caused the problem or not, they just blame it. I know that as soon as you put even a Blow-off valve on a stock wrx, that voids the warranty. Anything done to engine/suspention voids the warranty. Now, if you turbocharge your car, and before going back to the dealership take it off (like it was never turbocharged before)... that's fine. But as soon as they see it, you're done.kinkyllama wrote:Well i know in normal warrantys it doesnt matter what you do... under laws it cant void the warranty. So, keep the stock rims just in case you ever have to go back to the dealership.

No ive seen laws where it states NOTHING can void the warranty unless that is the sole purpose causing problems and the warranty will not cover any parts you add/replace. I was just woundering if that also includes extended warrantys.
Nothing actually voids the warranty. . . they just might try to blame something on that.

they can try and blame all they want, but if a headlight goes out and they say its b/c of the tires then their full of shit. thats an extreme and ridiculous example but you get the point.
i say go with what igor said put them on and when it needs to be taken to the dealer switch them out.

Magnuson-Moss warranty act states that the dealer cannot blame any warranted problem on just any aftermarket product present in the vehicle. They have to prove that the product is the direct cause of the problem you have. Also the denial or voiding of warranty has to be issued on paper for your reference, otherwise it is not legally denied or voided.
Example: A cold air intake Has nothing to do with faulty spark plugs and to pay the dealer $60 to change the plugs is a rip off.

you see.. now that the rims are bigger there isnt as much tire making it ride rougher and causing the light to viberate and go out
