oil level checking

hello everybody! maybe someone can reply me.
i think Is really difficult to read the optra/Nubira oil dipstick, for oil
checking level (i think dipstick is inaccurate), normally in service
manual, is write that you check engine oil level when engine is warm
after 15 minuts stop. When i check the oil level (always in the some
parking place), after 15 minutes, one day the oil level is in full
position, i check the following day and oil level is betwen MIN and FULL,
i check still the following day and is still in full position!
I also noticed that when you put the oil dipstick for checking oil ( MIn
and FUll mark towards engine block) and when you put the oil dipstick
(MIN and FULL mark towards radiator) the oil level on the dipstick is not
the same!! For example if your oil level in the dipstick is on FULL
(towards radiator), is between MIn and FUll (towards engine block)!!

Thats just because the dipstick is at an angle, just put the dipstick in so that "ENGINE OIL" is right side up. As for oil checking, I don't really do the check warm engine thing because oil gets agitated and splashes up onto the dipstick slide and oil gets up in the cylinderhead and you can't get an accurate reading. I check it when it is cold and always get consistent results. Keep in mind that oil with expand and contract with temperature and mileage.

can you tell me what do you mean when you say : " put the dipstick in so that "ENGINE OIL" is right side up." What is "ENGINE OIL"? on my dipstick it is just writen : FULL and MIN

On the dipstick handle of my Lanos is written "Engine oil" sometimes I put it in upside down and get the same problems you do. I don't know if it says that on your car, but make sure the MIN/FULL is facing the engine block.

but can u tell us how many liters does ur lanos just take ?
cause the manual tells 3.75 and when i put 3.75 the oil level is over the max by .75 liter

can you get the engine code for us??

as far as i know the 1.5 SOHC and the 1.6 DOHC engines take 3.75 liters of oil so i am not sure how this happensto you unless you got a very strange engine or so

ok thank you, no is not write"engine oil" on the dipstick handle.

Scratch a mark on the handle top ('T' or something like that) so that the dipstick will always check the level the same way ..(re-read BosnianLanos reply to you about oil on different sides of the actual dipstick)
