Kiwi shoe polish melted into my seat ... Help?

Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

I had some stuff on the back seat of my car, and a can of brown Kiwi wax shoe polish fell out of a bag and was on the seat under the stuff so I didn't see it. It has been quite hot recently and the shoe polish melted and ran out of the hole in the side of the can where the twist open lid tab is attached.

I am thinking manybe paint thinner, a scrub brush and paper towels, but I'm not sure if that will work.

Maybe I'll just have to get a new rear seat uphulstry or just put seat covers on. :(

Any ideas how I can get this out?

i pulled black shoe wax from my seats using one of those little steamer/vacuum things. use the steam to get the wax to flow and suck it up. my mom had one so i just went to her house and used it. ask around... i'm sure someone has one :D

paint thinner will eat your seat cover... it is made of some material that is basicly polyester or so and thinner eats that fast.

Try "Simple Green" automotive cleaner. It is non-toxic and smells really good. Not to mention that it can be used to clean damn near anything on your car. I use it for Plastic, Interior, Wheels, Engine, and it always does a really good job. It is like $5.00 for a large spray bottle (like Windex) and you add water in certain concentrations to get the cleaning power you want. You can get it at Walmart or other chain stores.

Heat and remove. You can rent a steamer if you do not own one.

If there is a residual smell then use vinegar to neautralise it. For a few days after I recommend an air freshner on the mirror and a dryer sheet under each front seat.

If you have any staining then you can try your favourite stain remover or carpet shampoo but use a wet sponge to mop up most of it after it has set for a bit.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the ideas everyone; I'm sure I'll get it clean some how.

According to DoItYourself.com a product like Goof Off or Goo-Be-Gone will remove it, but it says to try it on the cloth in a hidden area first to make sure it does not discolor or damage the cloth.

I have that stuff at home and will try it. :)

I sure hope it works!!!

I used my good looks and charmed the shoe polish right out! LOL

hahaha .... I used Goof Off, lots of paper towels and a can of Prestone Automotive interior seat cleaner that had the built in scrub brush on the top of the can.

Its not totally gone, but you REALLY have to look at the spot where the worst of it was to see a very slight discoloration.

I'm glad it's gone!!

:)
