Lanos engine size variations?
How many engine variations are there for the Lanos? The reason I ask is here in the UK we have 2 versions, the 1.4 SOHC and 1.6 DOHC. I notice that other countries refer to the Lanos engine as 1.5 & 1.6. I am not sure why the UK call the SOHC a 1.4 because actually it is 1349cc so therefore closer to 1.3 but vehicle records show it as a 1.4?
well... i have seen posts mentioning a 1.3 and 1.4 lanoses, maybe a mixup for the 1349cc engine but i am not 100% sure if both engines does exist or is it actually one engine with two different references.
however i am sure that the lanos came with the following engins:
1- 1.5 SOHC pumping 86 HP.
2- 1.5 DOHC pumping 110 HP.
3- 1.6 DOHC pumping 105 HP.

The 1.5 DOHC as sold in Jamaica made 91ps (metric hp which is actually equal to around 87 or so Imperial hp), while the SOHC made 78ps (or around 74hp). Our engines have lower compression ratios than other markets (8.6:1). Egyptian 1.5s have a higher comp ratio than ours do and this would no doubt equate to more power. I have heard it said that variable intake manifolds build less power than the regular manifold because of the restrictions that the butterflies cause. This would account for power drop in 1.6 (E-Tec) as per the 1.5 (non-E-Tec).
Cogito ergo sum...

i couldn't beleive it either but it was stated in the car's user manual... i never saw a 1.5 DOHC before and i would like to know how the hell does it pump all that much power, maybe the manual is mistaken or maybe not... got to find out from someone who owns a car with that engine.lanos2001 wrote:1.5l DOHC 110hp?!!!! WTF!??? how does it make more power than the 1.6l??? is it the weight diff or something?? thats the first time i've heard of that!!!1- 1.5 SOHC pumping 86 HP.
