Finnaly done with T-Belt

Post by delphis »

well after 3 days of hell and not being able to find the right tools here my buddy and I got my timing belt replaced! VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THIS CHANGE YOU WILL NEED A 41MM CROWS FOOT OR 41MM FAN CLUTCH WRENCH We did replace the tensioner and the serpintine belt as well, just took us a while to get the tools to get the job done, and in the process I ripped out my resinator from my intake setup maybe it's just the placebo effect, but i notice there is a little less restriction on the intake.[/b]

removing the resonator will make you feel less intake restriction indeed.

it is required to release the tension on the timing belt, I didn't actually do it myself my buddy helped me do it, but I beleive that it had something to do with the water pump to release the tension on the belt.

Aligning cam marks on Lanos

Post by RobertW1213 »

Perhaps you or your buddy could help me with aligning the marks on the cam pulleys of the Lanos engine during timing belt replacement. The question I have is that the marks do not stay aligned as the intake cam snaps back to either just before or after the mark. I can put a wrench on it and hold it into position until I get the belt on and the crankshaft mark and both the cam marks are ok but I then am unable to rotate the crankshaft more than a few degrees before reaching very strong resistance. I have removed the spark plugs so there is no compression resistance. I am concerned about forcing rotation more as it seams to be a very firm blockage. As you probably know these engines have no clearance for a valve being open when the piston is at top center and I do not want to damage the valves.

Did you experience this during your belt replacement. Please inform me if you will either way. I was just working on it today and ran into this problem. Many thanks. :(
