audio system selection help
Hey guys,
Well I'm looking to get either (1) 10" sub or (1) 12" sub with an amp. What are some of your recommendations?
I'd like something with a decent quality and a low cost...
Thanks

Here's more info on lightning audio amp:lanos2001 wrote:i'd definately go with the kicker but i'm a little iffy on the lightning audio. whats the RMS on that amp? i'm at work and the site is loading up slow. i say for the kicker comp you would want at least 300watts RMS.

It says 250W RMS x 1 @ 2 Ohm.
I think they (kicker and this amp) will sound nice together... and 50 bucks is a good deal for this amp, right?

Lightning Audio is made by a company owned by Rockford, but is a much lower build quality and is just not on par with anything RF makes.
RF itself has gone down over the past few years and are selling more on the name they had built on with their previous products.
Lightning Audio is not even as good as Sony car audio, neither of which I'd pay money for.

Here is a very nicely matched pair, and much better quality than Lightning Audio.
Phoenix Gold amp and 12" subwoofer
Subwoofer: 250 watts @ 4 ohms $52

Amp: 250 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms $75

We said..."is not the equipment, is how it installed" you can get a excellent setting or buy a spencive system but at the end if the person who put the system in your car don't make a good installation it will sound like crap...
So buy what ever brand you want. Just remember don't try to move a 400rms sub with a 100rms amp.

For that PG 12" sub, do you want a sealed or a ported box?
Sealed is a little smaller and easier to build, but ported is bigger, yet it gets louder and has a better over all spectrum reproduction when the box is tuned exactly to the specific subwoofer you are using.
I have software to generate EXACT specs for building a subwoofer enclosure for ported or sealed, tailored to the specific subwoofer.
Let me know what type of box you want and I will generate the details you need for that sub.
Remember, just buying a generic box will never result in the best sound.
As mocpac_ser said, the installation is more important than the equipment you use. Even poor equipment can sound good in a very well designed setup with good installation. Good equipment in a good installation will sound wonderful.
You can buy a sheet of 3/4" MDF (medium density fiberboard) for around $20 from any home improvement or lumber store. A box of coarse thread 1 1/4" drywall screws for $5 and a bottle of Elmers wood glue for $2. If you have clamps and a jig saw, you can build the whole box yourself in a few hours.
