Fuel Filter for Lanos 1.5L (1999)

Post by crdc »

Anybody know if a Lanos 1.6 fuel filter will fit a 1.5 hatchback?
I work for NAPA in canada and can get parts at a really, really discounted
price, but we don't have much for the 1.5 model.. Thanks!

if you are talking about the fuel filter on the firewall then they are both the same unit.

their is another one on the fuel pump but that one is not serviceable... you just worry about the one on the firewall.

Ok, got the filter, my brother put it in, but he screwed it up and put it on backwards!

car was driven like that for about a mile... was bucking like crazy, and no power... then we noticed the problem and flipped the filter around. but no change in the car's performance...

we tried getting another filter, no change still.

thinking the paper inside the filter got torn and went flying inside the fuel rail, clogging the injectors..

could it be worse than that? could the engine be completely blown?

please reply asap, thanks.

i haven't opened a fuel filter before but i don't think it is that easy to tear any cleaning element inside it... the regular fuel pressure is some 40 psi so it is fairly strong. plus my mechanic used to clean fuel filters by inserting a pressurized air hose in one end... the pressure is strong enough to fault the cleaning element if it was that fragil.

it might be some dirt went into the injectors or so duer to the reversed flow... does your car have fuel in the cylinders? do you have a CEL?

The car actually ran great for a couple of minutes. We stopped to pickup something. When we restarted the car, we did get a CEL... (maybe not the smartest thing, but we reset the ecu afterwards.. no CELs anymore)
no fuel in the cylinders...

try to know where the fuel line is blocked, take off the fuel filter from its clip and reomve the "OUT" hose from it then make a friend turn on the ignition... fuel should rush out of the filter (you got to have a contaner to catch the rushing fuel to avoid fire).

if fuel comes out then it could be the injectors or some shit in the fuel rail or so... if no fuel comes out then try the same test but after removing the fuel filter... if fuel comes out then it is the filter, no fuel means you got blocked fuel line or faulty fuel pump.

Just thought i'd let you know... the problem was with neither the fuel rail, injectors or filters....

I was just extremly unlucky.... within a few minutes of trying out my car with the new fuel filter, the coil pack blew... the engine was running off two cylinders! (that explains the shake and lack of power)...

Thanks for all your help... I found the info I needed on another thread here..
