jack the car on the suspension, take off the wheel then make a very fat friend(S) sit on the lifted side... the bigger they are the more compression you get. (j\k)

Thats what I tried, minus the fat friends sitting on it, I used a 2-ton hydraulic jack and after a certain point the whole car just started lifting up.

you need extra weight to compress the springs more... be careful as "fat friend on the hood" can make the car unstable and it could fall on you while working and cause serious injuries.

Thanks for the help. I was talking to my friend's dad (He's the head mechanic, not too sure what his title is, down at an Acura dealership in Dallas.) and he said that I should be able to use a large-sized pipe wrench to compress the spring further. Being as thats a little less hazardous to my health, I'm going to attempt that.

If that doesn't work, I'll be buying some 5 inch bolts to use. Essentially making one of the clamps able to compress the spring as I install another clamp with the correct 3 inch bolts.

Will keep you posted and I'll have some before and after shots the day I get them installed.

thats a position where you are a mechanic that only works on engine heads... just like a dentest is a doctor that only works on teeth

i didn't get the part involving using a big pipe... anyways be careful with what you do 'cause those things can snap and cause injuries.

good luck and pics pleas when you are done.

I meant to say pipe-wrench, not too sure if I forgot to type wrench or not. This is the tool I'm talking about.

i missed the "pipe" when reading... my bad.

only problem is, i still don't get it... if you are going to do what i think you are going to then watch out 'cause this wrench got sharp teeth and will make bite marks on the spring... not sure if this will affect the spring performance or durability but i won't be comfortable while doing so.

Put some kind of padding on those teeth, you'd be set.

By head mechanic I though he meant mechanic in charge. Just like there's a title head cashier, that is a cashier that's in charge ;) .

Forget using the pipe wrench, get the right tool: a spring compressor.
