Problem with my Aveo's suspension! help!
Well, heres another story. I picked up my new tires and wheels a week or two ago and drove 500 or a little more miles on them. Before, I had a problem with the front tires wearing real quick, like after 5k miles. So, I took my car in for the 2nd time recently and it showed the alignment on both wheels was off by 20 degrees a wheel!!?!
Ok, so they re-aligned a 2nd time making me pay for it because they think I caused it. Thats beside the point, my new tires are wearing again, not a ton but like 2/32" less tread than the front. The tires are at the right PSI, the alignment was re-done, which it seems pretty strait. Only thing I can think is I have a huge steep hill, and the slope instead of going in(you know like race tracks) faces out and its really the outside of my tires that are wearing. I take this hill very slow and I dont understand it. Thinking it was my subwoofer that caused the alignment to be off, I took it out, and am now without a subwoofer or amp or anything.
With ALL that being said, I need help, do you think it's the stock suspension, I dont really want to lower it because of the hills, speed bumps in my neighborhood, rocks, and everything else I go through each day. Im looking for a strut bar maybe to tighten the chassis abit, maybe one in the engine compartment? But my best guess is it might be a tie rod....which they would HAVE to fix that, its under warranty. But I really dont know.

outer part of tires worn out means you got too much tow in... that means your front tires are facing enach other from the front.
it could be also taking sharp turns at high speeds but if that was your normal driving style it would have affected your tires in so many ways and i don't think this is the case here.
as for a faulty suspension part: i don't know... it could be that but again faulty suspension causes non uniform tire wear rather than what you discribed, it sounds more like bad allignment rather than anything else.
are you sure your front wheel bearings are in good condition?? faulty bearings can mess your allignment even if your steering is alligned correctly.
again the guys that did the allignment should have checked for the bearings first, if they were bad then they should notify you to replace them as any allignment work with faulty bearings will be usless.

well... it could be tow in or it could be too much camber (or possibly caster). most front wheel drive cars are designed to have tow in for stabilty reasons, but i don't know what would cause such severe alignment issues like that. plus... 20 degrees off per wheel is an extraordinary amount of deflection. for diagnostics, get some chalk and totally color the side of both your front tires, including the small amount of tread around the outside. drive normally and then inspect the chalk... see where it's rubbing and why... then if you can tell us we'd have a better idea of where the mis-alignment is...
good luck (and make sure you don't have an offset on your rims that is way off... if it's more than 15mm, that could be a definite problem)

Well One day after school someone in front of me braked really hard and I didnt see it fast enough and hit him at like 5mph making a very small dent in the front, and by very small I mean almost unnoticeable. I dont think that messed anything up but I have had my car re-aligned 2 times, maybe its time to take it to a different place to do alignments. The dealer gave me shit about it saying "GMC has started to only allow one alignment per year" which is bullshit, that was never in my warranty information, but he said it just started and this is the manager of the dealership im talking to. Again, I dont burn-out ever, and I do take some turn in my concrete paved neighborhoos with hills at 30, sometimes 35, but tighters ones at 20. Other than that I cant think what it is, im gonna take it to a different place to align, and if this doesnt work, the dealership is going to get a mouthful. Im not in the mood to have my car in the shop for 2 days again for alignment since they are retarded. I just really cant imagine what it is causing the problem. I dont know if the tie rod is messed up or not, im gonna take a look under the car now and see.

EDIT: thanks audi, I will try that now. They are 15x7 Konig Theory's I really dont think its the offset but I can check. They were bought and installed by a professional store, and they have knowledge of what fits, so I dont think its the rims problem. Also before when I had the stock wheels it did the same thing....

Well I chalked it and its only the outside, seems it is probably the hill. So its either stiffen the chassis or find a new way home...the car rolls so much you wouldnt even believe. I wish there was springs that were stiffer, but didnt lower much. Anyone know of a tower strut bar for the Aveo?

Lowering springs usually have less bounce so you shouldnt have a problem.. i know a few ppl that got lowering springs cuz there springs were to soft and the tires would rub... now theyy dont and its lower
