right, i live in the uk, and i can shed some light on this.
a while ago the car company called VAUXHALL / OPEL (euro name) started selling cars, they went on to sell ASTRA's, the MK2 astra was released around 1988 yes, thats 17years ago. this is what the sporty version looked like
then a few years later, they changed the look, and stop producing the mk2.
well, around 1997 (possibly a bit earlier) DAEWOO started producing cars, of which was the NEXIA. it is actully a mk2 astra, with a few moddifications to the body, and some other refinemements. compare the pics (near identical other than daewoo badges)
now, its the exact same car, but with a few changes. then along came the lanos, which if im right, still has the same frame as the astra/nexia, but with a huge change to the exterior look of the car. this can be seen in things like the engine, when i recently had a cam belt change, it was near identical as the mk2 astra 1.6 16v, except for a tensioner in a slightly different place. the suspension is near identical.
anyway, reason for all this is, vauxhall produced a variety of engines, include a 2.0, and 2.0 turbo. commanly know as RED TOPS. now they are very popular in the uk, and used in lots ov engine transplants, for things like ASTRA's, NOVAS and CORSA's. they put these huge engines in small cars, and its just silly how fast they are. but basicly, these engines were in an astra and calibra's. and i have been told, that without to much effort, you can fit a 2.0 or 2.0 turbo into a lanos.
but basicly, most daewoos/engines are vauxhall ones, i belive they bought the rights to produce them, and did so. here are some pics of different engines, in other vauxhalls (note, this cars are sooo small, but there is loads ov them with 2.0 conversions)
now, the 2.0 turbo (second pic) can be heavily moddified, and a friend (owner of car pictured) has got 308 bhp from it! now thats just stupid amounts.
sorry if info seems a bit random, but basicly, they are near identical engines, and if them 2.0s got in a car tiny car like a corsa or nova, they will easily fit in a lanos...il get some more info soon.
