Leganza & Nubira

Post by jfarthing »

Do they have the same head? I found a Nubira in the local u-pull-it yard and the engine appears the same. Whats the story?

I would expect the heads to be the same. The 2.2 is a stroked 2.0, meaning that the stroke of the 2.0 has been increased. The 2.0 has bore and stroke of 86x86, and the 2.2 has numbers of 86x94.6. The bores are the same so it would stand to reason that the heads would be the same.

kinda off topic but... can you swap the 2.0 crank with the 2.2 to make it practically a 2.2?? maybe you will need the rods too or something but as a basic idea... will it work??

thats what stroking a motor is. by installing a different crank and rods, you increase the stroke. Stroker motors break rods at lower revs than the same motor bored out to the same capacity, but its a cheap way to get more power.

Well.... as Tom said... the Leganza block is taller.... by about 10mm

So to make it work you would have to get some custom "short" connecting rods to compensate for the longer stroke.

There might be a good reason why they chose to make the block slightly taller to work with the 2.2L crank.

If you think about it.... why would they waist all that money to make a block specifically for the 2.2L if they could make the current 2.0L block work with a 2.2L crank.

Who knows..... the only way to tell is to try.

And back to the subject..... yes.... the 2.2L and 2.0L heads are identical so you can get the head from a Nubria if you can find one in good condition.
