Modifications for optra/forenza

Hi learned guys n gals....

i have a stock 1.6 L Optra Auto....
I am planning to mod it but budget constraints means i can only indulge in one mod for the next year.....

what should i do first?

Install a CAI?
Change my muffler?
Lower my suspension?
Change from 15" to 17"?

I need more low end torque than high end power....

pls advise

Out of all those options I would either get a CAI or lower the car.

Well, you really can't compare those four together, getting a CAI is a lot less expensive than lowering your car or spending a $1000 on rims. :)

I think if you are looking for power, your first thing should be intake/exhaust for a few extra HP, as both of them together wouldn't cost more than maybe $300. Next you should get rims because a lowered car would look silly without aftermarket wheels. Finally you should get it lowered and you would have a nice setup.

So, BosnianLanos's personal opinion:

1. Both CAI and Exhaust
2. Aftermarket Rims
3. Lowering

I think it would probabally be the most logical thing to do because comparing intake/exhaust to getting new rims is like comparing apples to oranges. You can get both done for less than the price of wheels or the price and labor of lowering.

Just my 2 cents :wink: .

I think you should do intake/exhaust first... but i think you should lower it before you ever get rims


I think rims on a stock car look bad because the make it LOOK lifted... i dont like cars that have rims that dont have at least lowering springs

Nick, at least you have those spacers and a body kit which makes the car look low to the ground and the wheel gap isn't big.

Godzilla, where do you live? I thought the optra only came in 2.0 and 1.8

where i come from, everything is pretty much expensive.

CAI - if DIY will prb cost less than S$100
Muffler - if street legal will set me back about S$800 - S$900
Rims - will set me back about S$100 - S$200 per pc for my choice
Lowering - if only use springs will set me back about S$400

By the way, what is the effect of using CAI and less restrictive muffler on low end torque? In my country, there is not enough road to take off so I only focus on acceleration especially from rest.

Also, for CAI, is it best to use a drop-in aftermarket filter and a pipe directing cold air into it or to use a open-pod filter? Any diagram or any stuff?

Any idea how the stock optra air intake runs?

Singapore. The FINE city where almost everything has a fine if you don't follow regulations...:P

We only have the 1.6 version for Singapore market. In malaysia, they have the 1.8 version but to bring it in is a hassle. :(

whoa :shock: that is a lot of money for a muffler. i hope the exchange rate has a big difference. what currency is that and for what country?

Singapore and Singapore Currency which is currently trading at S$1.6 for US$1

was thinking of getting a projection aftermarket headlamp assembly but unable to get any info of it.

hey taht company that makes sells the cheap strut tower brace is in singapore. it was like 160 us dollars to have the front and rear shipped (that's the exact quote form them). see what the offer... anyone remember the post that had them in it???

that is still pretty high still for the muffler. is that before the fines or after? :lol: well as for the CAI since you have the 1.6l i'm guessing its the same set-up as the lanos. if it is then the CAI that acingteam got should work on your car too. at least if the hole in the fender is in the same spot.
