Audio problem (question)
Hey guys,
Well today, I made a rough turn and my subs slid around in the trunk. One of the negative wires came out of the sub enclosure and touched the positive one, causing a shortage.
Now, on my Amp, instead of the power light, protection light comes on and none of the subs work. I already checked the fuse and it's good. Protection light gives me hope that something could be fixed... Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks,
Igor
P.S. the unit is Sony Xplod XM-280GTX

you probably blew the fuse inside of the amp (if it has one on yours) if you have a volt meter or a simple tester check the ground wire slot on the amp and see if your getting power out of it. if you are you melted some stuff inside the amp and it fused together. its happened to me before but i just bought the amp then so i said it acted like that to begin with.

save a tree, eat a beaver.
The amp is still functional, the "protection" light lights up when the music is playing... so it's getting the power, but the subs don't work. So that fuse must be good. I must've messed up the insides of the amp... perhaps there's a fuse.lanos2001 wrote:oh i forgot did you check the fuse on the amp wire itself. there should be one on the wire itself like right after the connection on the battery. check that then take your amp apart or just take it to an audio store.

If I messed up the fuse, I'll just sell the subs w/ the enclosure... I'm done with bass.

If you have disconnected power and ground and remote turn on from the amp and then when you reconnect everything the correct way and the protection light still comes on, you need to have the amp serviced by a qualified technician.
The protection light is SUPPOSED to turn on and stay on until power & remote turn oh have been removed and then replaced. But sometimes touching the pos & net speaker wire together causes more damage than the amp's internal protection can handle.
Disconnect the wires, reconnect them and try it. If it is still not working, call teh manufacturer's tech support or email their tech support to find out if you need to mail the amp back to them or if there is a local authorized repair technician.

but if the amp doesn't have a power overload protection it is pretty much fried because if the neg and pos touched then they would have completed the circuit and not had any speaker load to intercept most of the power and it went right back into the amp and then bye bye amp. It can probably be fixed. Go and buy an new one and swap the serial numbers and return the old one.
