Passing 4ga cable through Optra 5 firewall?

Post by ChiPPy »

Has anyone passed cable throught the firewall of the Optra 5? If so, where was the easiest place to do this, and did you need to drill any new holes? I was looking at my engine bay today, and couldn't really see anything close to the battery side. I followed the main harnes from the inside of the car, but that seems to go through the fender wall, and I wasn't particularly wanting to remove the fender.

Any ideas?

I heard that it's not recommended. I put mine through the rubber grommets with all the other wiring that goes to the speedometer cluster.

the guys that installed my amp passed the power wire throught the rubber gormets indeed but they used the ones at the engine wiring harness... still surved the same purpose.

I *REALLY* hope there is a rubber grommet around those wires. I can not see one in the photo.

If there is no grommet, the road vibration can (and probably will) make the edges of the firewall wear through the plastic on the wires. This will cause the power cable to make contact with ground and short out.

I just used my main wiring harness grommet when running my 0ga power cable; that was the easiest way to go.

their is no gormmet?? i thought that lumpy thing was a gormmet!

as OZ said the metal edges of the hole will eat up the rubber insolator and cause a short, not to mention that in my Clarion head unit manual they said this could cause buzzing in the sound comming from the speakers.

anyways it is really not wise to keep it like that... try to get a gormmet but you will have to take off the wire to get ti in.

I fucking hate audio zone! bastards! My Dad made me go there cuz when my brother was my age he messed up the cars wiring. They rip you off so bad to. For the price i got my 1100wat max amp, two subs, and box... i could have gotten like 1000rms to two subs.

Ill check it.. if the wire shows no sign of wear ill leave it like that untill i get new subs

Which side of the car is this main wiring harness on? I looked at my firewall, and couldn't see hardly anything going through. From what I could tell, the main harness is routed through the left side fenderwall to the main fuse panel..... I did find some gromets on the right side of the firewall, that seem to do nothing, but then I would have to run the 4ga right around the back of the engine to run it through, which is more cable than I wanted to run. I guess I just have to keep looking for a place I can squeeze it though, but all I see if the sterring colum, and the throttle cable.
