Installing 6x9 Speakers in rear arm rests?

Post by flat6 »

Hi all

Came across this pic on daewootech.net

http://www.daewootech.net/assets/mini-w00sidepod.jpg

That is an awesome spot, does anyone here have their 6's or 6x9's installed like this?

Would the output be any good in this spot?

Trying to decide weither to put them in a custom made MDF parcle shelf or in the arm rests like in the pic..

Thanks, any feedback would be great

Cheers

Wait for Oz to Answer, probably another 3-5 hours... if he gets on tonight, but he'll give you a 30 minute lecture on why this is
a) good
B) stupid

He'll prolly say somthing like

"just get good 150w CDT's with tweeters in the front wit a Arc audio amp, you'll ruin the soundstage if you put speakers in the rear. then get some adire audio brahma 12's and some arc audio mono sub amps and blast your car away (along with Welding wire and either SVR or optima batter)."

i think you'd be better off just replacing the front speakers like that instead of wasting money adding them in the back. Plus it'll be clearer/louder.

Yeah you dont want good speakers in the back unless theres better ones in the front, it'll just sound like shit

I'm still putting money on OZ saying that you don't need rear speakers if you get those cdts.

Titanium Coned Tweeters if you Harsher highs or Silk if you want more mellow.

Pioneers good, not the best.

Bass depensd on how large your inclosure is - assuming all other variables are constant- so you are better off installing them 6"x9" speakers on the rear shelf rather than the rear door.

Wow, KnightWallace ... keep this up and I won't need to reply any more! LOL :P

Those are the same Pioneer speakers I installed in my father's Lanos, but instead of 4" I made adapter rings and put in 5 1/4" ones.

The ONLY way to have rear speakers installed and still have a good sounding audio setup is to have an expensive head unit (radio) that has time delay correction which will make up the difference in the time delay between the music playing from the front and rear speakers traveling the distance to get to your ears.

A good set of front component speakers will make a huge improvement, and puting 1 or more layers of deadening in the front doors REALLY imporves the frequency response, and really bringing the midbass to life.

If you have no time correction, the only thing that should be in the back of the car is the subwoofer, as bass is non directional and you can't tell where it is when it interacts with the front sound stage.

I had seen that pic of the 6x9 in the rear side panels and laughed at it.
LOL ... I thought ... wow .. that must sound awful! heh

Remember ... when making a subwoofer box, the box is built specifically to the details of the subwoofer. You can't expect a sub to perform and sound it's best if you just thow it into any generic box.

Cliff

P.S. If I left anything out, which I am sure it is a lot, it is becaues I am so tired I just about can't keep my eyes open. :)

I usually reccomend the CDTs because of their excellent sound reproduction, and the lower priced component speakers they have for $149 are VERY well worth the money.
If you are going to spend more money than that, then I know several other component speakers that are worth reccomending.

The best place I know of to get them, is www.TheZeb.com as they are authorized retailers and the speakers keep the full manufacturer's warranty.

Here is a full list of the CDT products that The Zeb carries.
http://www.thezeb.com/c-CDT-Audio-5008.htm

When I bought my CDTs there, they were shipped from the factory in California and took only 3 days to arrive at my house in Virginia after being ordered.

Those are the ones I have in my Lanos and they sound wonderful.
I suggest about 100 watts RMS per side and set the crossover to not allow any frequency under 65Hz to get to them.
